Londonmitch
The higher the ratio the more line per crank the reel picks up. 5.1 is typically a good reel for slow moving baits like a Hudd. 6.3 & 7.1 are better for faster moving baits

I'd go with the 6 or 7 for those baits. Can't go wrong with either of them

mcm83
me personally, i'd go with a 5.1:1 or the 6.3:1. IMO its always easier to speed up than to slow down...
SPEEDBEAD
I know that but whats the differences in gear ratio Why you gotta be a dick about it? That's how most people would answer that question. No bueno.

The more the spool revolves, the more line is gathered. The more line that is gathered, the faster the retrieve speed. Make sense?

No bueno. I don't think he was being a dick, emotions and sarcasm are difficult to relay over the internet. Young tsteady obviously hasn't mastered that skill, LOL. urbanhick
Any bait that has a lot of pull to it like a cl8bait baby crankin possum I use a low gear ratio its just easier on the crankin hand. They also have the high speed with a power handle but I have not used one.
