SU Charity - What do you say?

So I know we've all gained a lot from this board, I was curious if the SU had ever hosted any type of charity event? Lately I've felt pretty blessed to have the opportunity to fish pretty much whenever I want and with some great equipment and on some great lakes. I know there are kids (and adults) out there who are struggling with greater issues than anything most of us face. So I wanted to see if anyone is on board with me to try to organize something for us to do to give back to someone less fortunate.

I am not necessarily looking to help those who are having financial issues but more looking to help someone who is struggling with issues of the spirit. I know there are a lot of people out there who are terminally ill, disabled, etc. I was just the other day reminded that one of my friends once participated in a "Hunt of a Lifetime" before he lost his fight to cancer, I know that the joy he felt during that hunt took his mind off of some of the anguish of knowing he was going to die.

I guess that brings me to my point, I would like to organize something to give someone that feeling that each of us gets when we hook a giant bass. That feeling of pure joy, those few moments where we lose track of the things in our lives that beat us down. I don't know if it would be a sponsored fishing trip with a guide, a donation of rod/reel & swimbaits, or something else... and I don't know who this person is but I'm convinced this person is out there and that this little community we have could give them that little lift up that they need. After all, I love fishing a lot, but I love people a lot more.

If anyone has any ideas please feel free to PM me or respond to this post. I am willing to do the brunt of the work for this project both time wise and financially, just looking for people who could assist me along the way with ideas and elbow grease! I've had contacts with a lot of you and you seem like great people. Here's to trying something new!

I think you're onto something that could be great. I do donate as much gear I don't use as I can to fishing for kids programs. I also have done the veteran fishing tournaments and will continue to.

But also you are asking a group (and not judging all because those that are generous know who they are) that at times will buy a bait and flip it solely because they were fortunate enough to be at their computer at the right times for $5 fücking dollars or more!

Figure that one out

I think its a very noble cause I would like to participate. The thought of seeing some one who is sick catch there first fish is something worth giving back. Or like oh ok said the veteran fishing tournaments i'm interest in as well.

I know a few nurses and often volunteer to help them with a couple children's hospitals to take groups of kids fishing at local parks. Always a good time and its cool to see a child who's been sick/sad show a little excitement to catch a something.

While I couldn't directly volunteer at any events you guys got going out west I could probably send a little money or something
