Spectrum
First actual review I've bothered to write here, so I hope I cover what y'all want to know. If I miss something, just ask. High Power Gliding Gizzard Super Slow Sink & Slow Sink 3.6oz - 3.8oz 1/0 Owner ST-36s ~9†long from line tie to tail Resin, stainless screw eyes, carbon hinge pin, durable top coat, etc. All the same things you’ve seen on the Herring. I’ve had these baits for about 8 weeks now, and caught a lot of fish on them in that time. I wanted to put up a review, mostly because I feel like I owe it to Randall. Currently, I’m fishing these baits on a LDC Production H, Curado 301DSV spooled up with 25lb P-Line PF. I’d prefer to be throwing them on a production XH but don’t have that rod anymore. The Custom XH throws it fine as well, but a little stout for me considering I stick with the ST-36s. When they showed up in the mail, I had them tied on and in the water within an hour. And I’m not going to lie, the action was nothing like I had in mind. If you’re looking for another bait with a big, wide smooth glide like a 250, this isn’t it. I had to get over that first myself. After a couple of days with them on the water, and just seeing what they will do, I was all in on this bait. On a straight wind, it has a very tight swim, not moving a lot off of center. But get creative with the rod and reel, and that’s where it shines. The super slow sink will just about suspend. It digs a little bit on the retrieve if you put the rod tip down, and will stay up with the rod tip up. You can control the depth of the bait throughout the retrieve this way, and kill it without it sinking out on you. Once I had a feel for the baits swim, turning the reel and twitching the rod at the same time, at the right time gets the bait to dart out 2ft or more to one side. Shorter, less exaggerated movements like this timed right, shoot the bait back and forth, about 1ft off center. There’s a bit of roll in the belly of the bait as it swims which throws a good bit of flash. The harder you fish it, the more flash it throws. A more erratic retrieve has been best for me, mixing in a lot of pauses. This is coming from a guy who fishes slow as hell though, so what I might be calling erratic, y’all might call boring… I’l let it hit the water and wait a few seconds, a couple of turns of the reel to get the bait down a couple of feet, pause and let it suspend. You might be able to pick up some of how I fish it from the video below, but honestly you just have to spend some time with the bait to learn it. Most of my bites have come on the pause, and they knock the hell out of the bait. Almost always a head shot. A really fun bite, and I’ve pulled a lot of bigger fish with it. You won't see near as many follows as you do with the 250, but that's a good thing in my opinion. I hate to pull a fish off of their spot, not eat, and then swim off. Top Ramen
Fist hit is epic. Also, you forgot to mention that sometimes they love it so much they grab it and take it home with them.
evans_usmc69
Great review Mike! Here's a video of the only fish I've caught so far on it, mainly because I am fishing trout lakes instead of gizzard lakes. Not a lot of gizzards in the lake I caught this fish on, just big(7" or so) herring and they still went after the bait. I missed a ton more as well Fist hit is epic. Also, you forgot to mention that sometimes they love it so much they grab it and take it home with them. That's just wrong!!!
oh ok
No video here but some photographic evidence. Floater and suspending/supppppppper slow sink in under 60° water. It's mid-November and my first real day on the water with them. First cast not even out of the ramp just turning the boat and gettin the line wet and situated and pack follows out. I was just slow grinding the floater which will pull down and then slowly rise. I saw them and killed the retrieve. Leader of the pack comes out and nails it. 4.0 first freakin cast! So I fish a while longer missed to striper that were busting on shad. No biggie. Hooked into something started winching in and came off. Oh well. Started fished the suspender/slowww sink mid day and think I like it better. When you kill the retrieve it just sits there waiting to get smashed. Came to a dock and pulled something from the shadows. Killed the retrieve and waited. Saw the bait disappear and and flash of the fish and weight. Swing! Another 4.0! Honestly think it may have been the same fish fooled twice in the same day. I was at dock near the ramp so it truly wouldn't surprise me. The retrieves I was using probably looked like I was bat ish crazy. I was snapping the reel. Slow grinding. Twitching. Probably a seizure or two also. Regardless the bait is fun as hell you can mix it up any way you can think of. It will swing wide if twitched and reeled at the correct time or have a nice slow last dying swim meandering along. Londonmitch
Nice review and follow ups guys. Hoping my glide is at the house when I'm back in town, really looking forward to fishing it.
oh ok
Fist hit is epic. Also, you forgot to mention that sometimes they love it so much they grab it and take it home with them. Welp this is very true. I just lost my super slow sink/suspending to not one but TWO fish! I am in shock, excited, and sad. Had atleast a 6 or 7 on and as I'm getting it to the boat another guy comes up and crushed the tail. Then they both dove and the line went limp. I thought to myself that's too limp for them to have both gotten off. I didn't want to raise my line and when I did the baits gone. 5 days of fun. I will be contacting Randall for another! Ps: FCUK 25# Big Game!
vikingbear8
We found a little dude on his way out today. Thought some guys might want to see the Gliding Gizzard next to the real deal. I should mention also that underwater it does have some of that purple/blue in the back mcm83
SpamEggsandRice
The first hit was insane.
Treep
That picture next to the real gizzard is insane, I've seen some awesome paint jobs, but nothing that looks as natural & realistic as that. Great review
FishDr
Great review and video. The first hit was something wicked! I got my gliding gizzard a few weeks ago and haven't had a chance to swim it yet. Of course, with 4+ days of highs in the 10s - 20s coming up, I might have to wait until spring - or head to warmer climes.
RyanPerrey
Great review! All of you guys have me pumped to fish this thing when I move to the midwest this spring!
Acuna
I've watched Mike fish this bait a bit. Couldn't help myself after watching all the videos and just sent Randall an email to see if I can get in on the last batch of these for awhile. Here's to hoping I am not too late! blackdynamite
Sweeeeet. Wish I had that when I used to fish the Cumberland in Tennessee.... The stripers there would go nuts on that thing.
