I just recently received one of these after be horribly out fished by them. I my first time throwing it at my local fishing hole i had 4 strikes. Missed my first strike. Second strike came right at shore, set the hook and pulled the bass out of the water then the fish spit the hook. Third strike hit the bait about halfway in, swam at me after the hook set making me think i messed it but it was just swimming around with the lure in its mouth. This fish spit the hook as I swung it out of the water but fell short of landing on shore. Forth strike was a miss.

According to my friends who were using them previously and really showing me why it pays to fish with swimbaits said a key is to allow them to eat it down before setting the hook, kinda like a snag proof frog or other hollow body frogs. (not sure if that is common knowledge on all swimbaits...still learning the tricks)

So last night I took my hudd gill out and had 4 hook ups for 5 strikes.  I hesitated a second or two before the hook set and after the first hook set I would sink a second hard hook set.  That seemed to help out considering my first strike held on till its first leap and tossed the bait, I only did one hook set on that one.

Now as far as swimming sideways ive noticed mine will do it sometimes and if i pick up the retrieve it would straighten out.  Also playing with the mold around the internal weight seemed to help, could just be my imagination.  Felt like i was making sure everything was settled where it should be.

My first issue with this bait came last night when i lost a very nice fish at the bank after a good fight with multiple aerials and drag pulling runs I went to lift its head to get a thumb in and a light head shake threw the hook!!  After some inappropriate language i checked my hudd gill and noticed that the hook was bent out to where it was sticking out of the hole at a 45 degree angle...has anyone else had this issue???

Awesome review of this bait. Need to get my hands on some but they seem impossible to find. Anyone know where to buy them from?? I also love the Matt lures bluegill. When I lived in San Diego it was the ultimate bed fishing bait, now that I live in NY with all the vegetation, I wish there was a weedless version. That's why I want to get my hands on the Hudd.
