Kylemh15
i have a revo beast that I have been using for inshore saltwater and was wondering if I could get away with using it for medium size swimbaits till I get the money for Calcutta d 400? I know it can handle the weight just worried about line capacity.. I will be throwing guess, triple trout, rats but nothing over 4 ounces. With okuma 7'11" XH. What do you guys think? Will it hold enough 20 lbs line? Kylemh15

timcauliffe
I've thrown a 250 on mine, 8" hudds, and a lot heavier swimbaits spooled with 50lb braid. It can handle them for sure!
atempest
I have mine spooled with 40 lb power pro.... love the reel it can definitely handle enough lline
Kylemh15
Okay. Do you guys spool braid then have a topshot of mono? Or straight braid
atempest
I go straight braid ... I've thought in the past about fishing with a flouro leader but I fish next to a guy who fishes mono and flouro only and I definitely DON'T get less hits using straight braid, 40 lb at that. Kylemh15
I think I'm going to try 20-25 lbs mono so if I get a backlash my lure doesn't fly off.. If it doesn't hold enough then I will go 50 lbs braid with 10 ft topshot Bass nutz
timcauliffe
I go mono backer to braid. Waters out here are murky hens the braid.
Kylemh15
So I tried straight mono for my Revo.. Used momoi diamond in 20#.. I reallY love the line. We use it for all our offshore stuff so i figured I'd give it a go.. But it doesn't swim with my topwater rats as well as I want it to and don't have another setup to spool with straight braid... So do you guys think I can put 50# braid and then 10-15 ft off mono to fg knot while fishing suspended baits and cut it off for topwater? Maybe with the small 10 ft of mono and rest braid my bait will swim better?? Thanks for the input.
timcauliffe
I throw slammers on mine with straight 50# braid and don't notice much of a sink. Initially there's a sink, but angling the rod up and reeling the spool helps (obviously). I fish mostly braid due to overly stained waters in my area and having a good standing with braid in general. Kylemh15
The lake I fish is clear though hence why I want to use a mono or flourp leader. I'll give it a shot
MA Frog Man
65 lb test braid to a flouro leader with a crazy Alberto Knott is what I used to run. Now I just use straight 25 lb mono on a revo big shooter compact which is the same size as a beast. Haven't had any problems. Actually prefer it to the braid for Topwater
