JDHanson79
So being on the east coast now. I was at a local lake and saw a sign that said please do not feed the gator's. So that got me thinking. I am sure gator's eat fish right. So what if one day I am throwing a big old slow moving top water lure and I get slammed by a Gator! Talk about the Flip side. flaswimbaiter
No need to worry, they hunt on the surface and you would see them coming, you would be able to pull your bait away before they get to it. And yes they love wake baits and will chase them down. At night you have to be really careful because you will not see them, you should fish well lighted areas and look for them on the surface. I have hooked plenty by accident and they do not put up as good as a fight as you would think and you can forget about getting your bait back unless they are under 3' long and even then you are flirting with disaster. JDHanson79
Ha that's awesome. I can see it now toss out the BAA and WHAM get slammed by a gator. I would cry if I didn't get my lure back.
echoedd
Are you guys walking the bank at night/day and fishing these spots with gators?
flaswimbaiter
Are you guys walking the bank at night/day and fishing these spots with gators? Don't be fooled by the hype from the media. Most gators are nervous creatures that will keep a good distance from you. Even the ones that are brave (due to dumba$$e$$ feeding them, which is also illegal) will only come so close. If you are not using a surface lure they don't even have a reason to approach you to begin with.

SPEEDBEAD
I don't like being #2 on the food chain... I'll keep my PA winters, you can have the gators.
BassAssassin49
Being originally from Louisiana, I got to go gator hunt with my uncles who do it every year. it was an experience i'll never forget, pulling gators up to 10 feet out of the water by a nylon line and then trying to shoot them in a certain spot on their heads while their thrashing all over the place . If any of you have seen the series "swamp people" you know what i'm talking about.
flaswimbaiter
If any of you have seen the series "swamp people" you know what i'm talking about. I love that show, a true example of what not to do if you really want to piss off a gator. My old man moved to Florida a few years ago. Gators are all he talks about. "They're everywhere" he says, "lakes, ponds, pools, and drainage ditches. If there's water, there's gators." That's about true, I guess being a native I am just use to them being around. CheeseWeasel
When I lived in Louisiana I was always more worried about the Water Moccasins than the Gators. Those bastards would pop up right infront of me all the time and just stare at me. Thats why I started using my broom stick and some 65lb braid to lob their heads off.
