I had been using a #2 VMC bronze round bend. Same as I use on hudds. But the RPA is so much smaller and narrower that you don't need that big of a hook. Basically, I never fish a bottom hook on my alewives anymore. Good hookup ratio, poor landing ratio. So I either fish them with the stock jig hook, or if I get a bottom hook I BB rig it with 25# mono like my hudds, but go to a #4 hook. My favorite so far is a short shank crankbait VMC.
