So here's the story..

It was the last fish of the day..had several largemouth biggest at 3.5#..several striper and my morning was winding down..I got into an area of the delta called Big Break and tide was out..water was very clear..the spot I was in was about 2' deep with a lot of surface weeds..I pulled up to a deeper lane about 4' deep between the weeds..I saw several good size bass and made a few feeble attempts to draw a strike but they weren't interested..the current was coming toward me so I cast into the lane a few times..picked up another 2# lmb and a shaker striper that would of died trying to consume a shad the size of the phoney..then I heard a splash and turned to see large rings in the water and thought it was a good size lmb..I made two casts and nothing..then I cast about 20' down current saw a flash and SLAM! Fish on! I immediately thought DD..but after a minute I was sure it was a 10# striper because it never surfaced and was peeling drag..as I got it close I saw the silver and was sure it was a big striper..once it was within recognition I thought WTF is that a salmon? I looked around and saw my net was still collapsed at the back of the boat..the fish came in and peeled drag under the boat but I was able to reach the net and with the aid of my foot extend it and land it! I wasn't in danger of shaking the hook it was buried in the lower jaw..I was still confused by what happened..weighed in at 10.02#..thicker than the pic showed..

I was planning on releasing it but they don't last as long out of the water..by the time I took a pic and got that buried hook out it wasn't reviving..later I was told that part of the river is still closed to salmon fishing but I wasn't gonna throw a dead fish back so the fillets are seasoned and in the fridge!!
