Ipleadthefish2 Posted May 30, 2017 Report Share Posted May 30, 2017 Megabass has yet to disappoint. I have owned the Levante Leviathan for the better part of a year. I LOVE this rod! Very nicely balanced. I like this rod for smaller swimbaits 5oz and down. It will throw bigger baits, but seems to loose a little control above 5oz. It has a pretty fast taper so i dont throw too many trebled baits on this rod.. Awesome for Hudds! This rod also doubles well as a heavy jig/punching rod. Thanks guys. I have thrown 68 hudds, deps 175, and 9" slammers on mine. Very nice rod, well balanced, and good parabolic bend. Not a broom stick at all compared to my irod genesis 2. Now, as far as trebles go, not so good. It has a fast taper. You won't be able to keep them pinned with the Leviathan on trebles. I lost so many fish this week figuring that out. jiggidigi Posted September 18, 2017 Report Share Posted September 18, 2017 I bought this rod last summer, and it's my first and only swimbait rod (for now). I did a ton research on rods, and this one just seemed to fit my needs at the time - good range of weights (3/8-6oz), I'm a fan of EVA grips, solid guides, and a good price point. Given it was my first swimbait rod, I've also had a chance to throw all kinds of baits on it to get a feel for swimbaits in general. I picked up a Tranx 300A winter/spring, and it's a very well balanced combo, it is rather sensitive in my opinion, and I can chuck it all day with minimal fatigue. Although I've taken a liking to throw cranks and wakes, this isn't the rod for that, so I'm currently searching for my second combo. This rod is def more tailored to baits like hudds, line thru baits, other soft baits like ragos, magslowls, ospreys, etc.. The rod has a good amount of backbone, but a quick taper. Like Esmin23 said, it's really hard to keep the fish pinned when using treble hook baits. I've lost a couple solid fish on my last few trips with crank style bait, and although I can't just blame the rod, I can say (with a high degree of certainty) that the rod didn't help as much as I feel it should have. But I am interested in this rod for several reasons. 1. I do a lot of bank fishing/stalking on highly pressured lakes here in Iowa or some of our better producing ponds that don't have boat access. The idea of only having to haul one rod that will perform well in every aspect with everything from the weedless hudd shad/minnow to an 8 inch rof 12 hudd and every soft jig hook style bait in between sounds too good to be true. The whole 795 , 806, 807, conundrum irritated me to the point that I just won't buy a dobyns period. Although the 794 Ive had my eye on for throwing the hudd gill and little weedless baits as well as the real prey 5 inch perch and real prey gill. For those who own the rod is this in fact true? You can fish basically the hudd gill to 8 inch rof 12 capably on this rod? I currently have an XH okuma guide series and while it's fine for the 68s and 8 inch Hudds it's way too much rod for say a hudd gill. 2. How is the handle length? I'm 5'9 and want to be able to tuck the rod under my arm for obvious hook setting reasons. It seems like I should be able to but it might be close. I would love to have one rod that can be the do everything for the soft jig hook baits and I'm cautiously optimistic that this could be it. Thanks! You can throw anything from a 3/8 oz swim jig to BB Thumper tail....GREAT jig hook rod.. Definitely not a great rod for bigger trebled baits - Alpha rat, Nez XL, 9 in Slammer, Deps 250.. seems to handle smaller trebled baits a little better tho - Gantarels, Swaiver, Line thru's, etc.. I mean just to have a jig hook rod alone for pretty much the entire range is mind blowing.Looks like I will be having to get my hands on one of these.How is the handle length?
