willdeblois90
The stripers are starting to trickle into my area. I have never fished for them with swimbaits and I'm strongly considering giving it a shot. I'm going to be using my Conquest reel and I'm just a little concerned on how the saltwater will affect the reel. I'm obviously going to clean it afterwards but I just want to see if anyone else has used this reel in saltwater?
MA Frog Man
Corrosion is all about how you take care of the reel. If you can break down reels and clean them or are going to have someone else do it every year or half year then it should be fine. Guys have been using calcuttas in the salt for many years and they hold up great. But it all comes down to maintenance. In my opinion once salt gets inside a baitcast reel, it very rarely all comes out quick enough to not do any damage. Especially with a reel like a conquest that has a lot of parts. I'd buy a cheap Cardiff, lexa, or tatula hd that you're not going to be out $600 if you don't get too the corrosion inside fast enough.
