Weird night of fishing

Decided to fish a little industrial park pond here in Alabama starting about 10pm. Probably 45 degrees and raining. Throwing a black 9" MS Slammer with lume tape on top.. within the first 5 casts got a nice fat little 2.5lb bass. Seems like a good start, few casts later there's a massive blow up and a fish on. Fish jumps twice. Feels like a 10lb bass. Turns out it's about a 10lb catfish! Two hours later, I've landed 4 catfish in the same size range waking the Slammer on top.

Super weird. Anyone else ever get into a bunch of big cats on swimbait? Never would have thought in a million years I'd catch 4 in one night on a big topwater swimbait. I've accidentally caught one here or there on a crank bait or spinnerbait but never on topwater.

Yes, I was throwing 6 inch Castiac baby bass at night, the bait was reeled up almost to shore and I got hammered, I was looking down trying to net it and it's was a large cat. It then proceeded to thrash and snap my line.

One of my first swimbait fish was a 15 lb blue cat on a mini slammer. It was awesome. The Potomac has a huge population of blue cats, and you can catch them with some regularity on most bass baits. They destroy hudds.

It happens fairly frequently - one night I caught a pair of channel cats on a Matt Lures Hard Gill.  Most of the time it's the Slammer they hit, and they hit it with evil intent.

As for targeting catfish intentionally, yes, you can do that too - especially if you know where there are big, swimbait crunching beasts.
