atharrison
Spring fishing was great for me this year, I live in Indiana and this spring they were eating everything I was throwing out there... as spring transitioned to summer they stopped wanting the swimbait so bad. This is my first year throwing big swimbaits so maybe I just need to figure them out myself. I was just wandering what all you other Midwesterners were throwing this summer and if you are catching any on the swimbait. Any feedback is appreciated! Hhunn
I'm in Indiana too. Most of my luck this summer has come off a 316 freestyle shad floater. If you can find one, buy it. Its a little 6 inch multi-jointed bait and the fish love it. I've also had some luck on glide baits. I haven't caught any really big fish which is disappointing as last summer was by far the best swim bait season I've ever had, numbers and size. Shoot me a PM or text at 317-989-5191 maybe we link up or talk fishing.
mcaetano2905
Try a 168 S-Waver and fish it with a medium speed retrieve and from time to time (or near the places where you think a big bass should be) give it a quick 1/2 or 1/4 reel handle turn so the lure glides more. If you see a follower do that quick 1/4 or 1/2 reel handle turn too. If it's not working try to fish faster or slower. Sometimes you have to burn it! If you have confidence try the 200 size. If you can afford it try the Deps 175 or the Deps 250 fishing with the same retrieves. As for color, just choose the color of the most abundant prey fish or the prey fish you think big bass are eating, but don't worry much about color: the action is more important. WHen fishing always keep your rod parallel to the water and pointed at the bait. Only use the reel to move the bait. When a bass bites quickly sweep the rod to the side. Fish the bait over submerged weedbeds, parallel to vertical walls, near trees and rocks and parallel to docks. Try to make them glide under the docks. Always fish the shadow side of structure and cover. The bass in my picture hit a 168 S-Waver last year in July. It's my second biggest bass ever. Good luck! Jetfisherjohn
Savage gear shine glide 185, bullshad, and a gantarel have been my 3 go get em baits this year. Pay attention to what you're fishing and look for the subtle sweet spots during you're retrieve.
Cody_the_kook
I'm from Southern California but I go to school in northern Indiana. Decided to bring big baits out this year. Let me know if you're relatively close I want to hit some new waters.
Primus
Not sure if you have any Bluegill swimbaits but that is a bait class that has done well for me in Michigan . I like the Matt lures hardgill in the floater, slow, medium & fast sink versions . The Got em Coach Floater has also been a good one for me when I 'm looking for a bigger profile . That said , slow rolling Kietech Fat Impacts on 1/2 & 3/4 oz jigheads have also been very productive for me lately .
