6th Sense FlowGlider / Evergreen ES Flat Advice

Hi Guys,

I've been asked to do a workshop/seminar on swimbaits and was planning on providing glides for everyone to use. It would obviously be great if I could hand out x20  Deps 250s but a single 250 will cost more than my flight across the country.

I have an original Evergreen ES Flat, a great little lure that I have neglected after making my own baits.  The 6th Sense Flow Glider is a 'copy' and there are lots of blanks available for repainting so a friend is going to custom pain them for me (check out his work if you like : https://www.instagram.com/offshore_g/?hl=en)

I'm going to have to put in some work on the lure and was hoping for a bit of advice on how to get the best out of it's action etc.

On a side note: The ES Flat was the first glide I owned. Here is a picture of me after spending about 3 hours dragging a anchor around the day after I lost it on my first ever session with it. The 3 foot of mono that snapped off some how wrapped around the rope and stayed on long enough for me to grab it just as I was about to head home.

I did well fishing it this spring with sharp 1/2 cranks of the reel . Sometimes I will throw a little slack in the line to try and trigger would be followers . You can also try to slowly crank the reel without any pauses . This is a fun bait to fish as it gets plenty of bites but is also chunky enough to catch a bigger fish from time to time which would be bass 5 lbs and over in my area . I also stuck a nice 40 " Pike on it as well .

I use one regularly almost exactly like primus just with a few rod twitches and pauses. But the 1/2 reel turn ( i fish it on a 6:4:1 ratio reel) is the common factor. The one i have is a custom paint job and im not sure if this is a problem with the blanks in general or just mine but the joint sometimes gets stuck on a steady retreive.

Hey Craig, just a word of caution, be careful with the many cheap blanks out there. I know a few guys that have tried to save some money with the type you see on ebay, all experiencing dismal results, everything from an unbalanced glide to constant leaking issues. I've encountered similar issues with Lucky Craft crankbait knockoffs. Even though you can have to plastic injected types of baits that look extremely similar, the performance and quality can be huge. The Evergreen is worth the extra money in the long run, especially with the time and effort of adding a custom paint job.

Good luck buddy!

Thanks for the replies.

The half real turn is pretty much how I fish my ES Flat. Its got a nice glide for such a relatively small lure. I've put lighter hooks on though so it just floats (only the top of the tail sticks out). Now it darts down about 3-4 feet and I can pause for much longer without worrying about it hitting the bottom.

Thanks for the warning about the knock offs Juan. I don't generally buy copies but was under the impression Evergreen had stopped producing the ES Flat which was why the factory was still selling the blanks. It's really a difficult bait to find, I can't even find their website.
