Dirtroadhound Posted August 14, 2017 Report Share Posted August 14, 2017 I got my first MS Slammer, 9 inch light trout, and went out Sat morning very early for 2 hrs and Sun afternoon for 7 hrs. My first impressions were awesome, love the tailing action and the creaking sound is very unique. I have never heard a bait sound like that and at first thought I might need to oil the hinge but grew to like the sound, I hope the fish do. One strike before the sun came up and it missed, so I never got to see what it was, so I am going to believe it was a bass. My question is: After using the Slammer for a while it seemed to float lower in the water and tail less than at first. I had to wind super slow to keep it on the surface tailing but that was not the case originally. Do these baits become waterlogged after several hours of use? The Slammer did not feel waterlogged but definatley ran different after several hours. Do I have a defective Slammer or is this normal for all Slammers? New to the swimbait game. philip garcia Posted August 14, 2017 Report Share Posted August 14, 2017 If you are using mono this will happen with topwater baits. mono will absorb water and get heavier and it puts drag on the bait. I definitely don't think the mono is weighing you down, I put 10 hours straight on 17 pound cxx without the action of my bait changing. But holding your rod higher is a good idea. Cxx is copoly which would take on less water than a line such as big game or another mono. Could be change in rod position or a combination of all. Could be change in water temp from fishing in morning vs afternoon. As said already every one has a unique action. Find out what you're dis best and use it to you're advantage. bigpoppabass Posted August 14, 2017 Report Share Posted August 14, 2017 My best waking slammers sit in the water halfway. If it cranks down a little it is usually a good thing. It is unusual for bait to become water logged after one use. Btw, always air dry em. I hang mine on a milk crate. Mine are in a pencil box for the trip and only then. It will run about 1 to 1.5 feet deep on a steady retrieve. Got it off *bay and like it, but was just curious. Only have a few swimbaits and was concentrating on the MS Slammer first to try and figure out what works . It is very hard to go from catching fish consistently, albeit smaller bass with the occasional 4-5 pounder, to not getting a bite for two trips. Definitely takes a commitment and some stubbornness to start swimbait fishing in the August heat in Tenn. All my buddies are laughing and think I am nuts for dropping everything else for swimbaits but I am committed. It has become a joke with the fishing buddies/co-workers and family because I am now a big bass hunter instead of a bass fisherman. Huge baits and no fish yet, I think I just started at the the worst time of the year. Thanks again for the responses. Bait did not feel waterlogged so maybe it was the big game 25lbs. Slow retrieves, fast retrieves, walking the Slammer, etc. It draws fish and they will destroy that bait. Some of my best fish have come on Slammers. Best bait ever made, imo. Every single slammer is different. EVERY SINGLE ONE!
