hydrocephalic
If the issue only came up with a change in which rod you use, that's likely where the issue lies. See if you can replicate the issue with the old rod (and a cheap bait, or just some heavy lead). Could be a micro defect in one of the guides. Another thing that comes to mind is the levelwind. Perhaps a knick in that is catching your line. Edited October 7, 2017 by hydrocephalic Mountainryan and Jpratt
brushhawg1
Sounds like a chipped guide eyelet. Mountainryan
basshole8190
Take a q-tip and run it around the guides on your rods and on your insert on your worm gears.. if there’s any knicks it will catch the q-tip and also make sure the rods guides have all their inserts still intact.. seems like an abrasion is causing it.. brushhawg1 and bigpoppabass
bigpoppabass
Alot of fancy utubers got me to use top of baitcaster as a hook holder. Don't do it cuz it can splice the braid. I have same issue with my braid to fluoro rig and using a line guide frame as a holder.
