Issues with casting off baits.......

If the issue only came up with a change in which rod you use, that's likely where the issue lies. See if you can replicate the issue with the old rod (and a cheap bait, or just some heavy lead). Could be a micro defect in one of the guides.

 

Another thing that comes to mind is the levelwind. Perhaps a knick in that is catching your line.

Take a q-tip and run it around the guides on your rods and on your insert on your worm gears.. if there’s any knicks it will catch the q-tip and also make sure the rods guides have all their inserts still intact.. seems like an abrasion is causing it..
