lathgage
Anybody have any advice to lend? I am currently fishing an Okuma guide Select XH, and I am not completely satisfied with the split grip on it. As it is getting into winter, I will be using it more and more for hudd fishing. How much of a hassle would it be to remove the grip and add a full length heat shrink tubing like x-flock? I am thinking about getting a new rod anyways, so I might as well try my hand at this to see if I could surprise myself and do it myself, as I don't have any previous rod building experience. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
MA Frog Man
There's a ton of videos on YouTube on removing grips and replacing grips. Not too hard to remove anything on a rod. Mostly ask just glued on. Just gotta watch the blank and your should be alright

Im starting to wonder if filling in the split grip somehow and covering the whole thing would be an easier alternative than just removing the handle. lathgage
Fill with cork tape and then cover with x flock I was thinking that or cutting a foam core to fit into the split grip then cover it with x-flock
thedonnguyen
cork tape is easier to deal with and you don't have to ream it out
urbanhick
I was thinking that or cutting a foam core to fit into the split grip then cover it with x-flock Split the grip length wise, add glue and install then put on the xflock and shrink it down to hold the grip in place while the glue sets up.
