Ktc016
Can someone give me suggestions for a new big bait rod? I'm needing a rod i can throw anything from 8 oz up to 10 or 11 oz or so. I've been looking at the 13 muse black in the 8'6" X heavy, but I just want some more options. I don't really wanna spend anymore than $250. I'm just trying to get the best for the money. If theres cheaper that are just as good id rather do that and spend less. Btw I have a calcutta 401D that i will use on it and I always use braid to a leader now so I also need a rod that will account for that. BigSlant
Honestly.. if your going to get into the really big stuff I'd consider building a rod.. none of the production rods i had feel as good as the one i built.. That being said guys like the Dobyns 908.. it's not too much more than you were asking I'm an IROD fan for budget.. the xh mag is rated 5-12 but I bet 10-12oz is going to be pushing it I'm not sure on the new spiralite rods.. they have good prices.. maybe Ceasar can chime in Good luck with search Edited December 8, 2017 by BigSlant Tuco, HelpMePickABobber and Low&Slow
HelpMePickABobber
Spend a little more and have one built to your specs. You'll be happier in the long run. Angryjohn
Mossypumpkin
I’d recommend the Dobyns 908. Will absolutely launch a 9oz bait. I’d say maxes at about 12oz and you can find a used one in great shape for around $200 or pm me if you want a new one BigSlant and Amistoad
Top Ramen
The Dobyns 908 will handle that range easily. It's a bit out of the price range you posted but if you're a vet, you can get one for 30% off direct from Dobyns (they really take care of veterans). I think with shipping, that would put you at $223 delivered. It loads up really well and does a lot of the work for you when you use it right. It's one of the easiest rods I've used to throw a really big bait all day.Custom is the way to go but a 908 will definitely take care of you while you save up. Ktc016
Thanks guys for the input. Yea I have looked at the dobyns i just don't know about the 8'10". I don't think it's too long as far as the fishability, its just putting it in the boat or truck or other ways of travel. But if i get it ill deal with it. I love my 867. I'm in the exact same situation right now with the 867 but it's such a great rod I think I'm just gonna deal with the storage issues lol
