Rod Bendhard
Anyone have any experience with magnets? Been making a few baits lately and I'm on the fence about putting magnets in them to hold the hooks against the body of the bait. I like the idea and look of the hooks tucked up out of the way, but does this negatively effect the hook up ratio? Help a brother out SBU!!! Garrett
I haven't been fishing it very long but my islide 185 has magnets and so far I have a 100% percent hookup ratio on it (About 5 fish) so it doesn't seem to hurt it
danthefisherman
Don't have any person experience with them, but I always imagined that free hanging hooks had a better hook up because of the way they can sweep into a fish's mouth on a strike. Gspring13
Another thing to consider is once the bait hits the water the hooks can get knocked out of place or off the magnet completely depending on how heavy the bait is. I’ve tried them with a few soft baits and didn’t end up liking the outcome.
Rod Bendhard
Another thing to consider is once the bait hits the water the hooks can get knocked out of place or off the magnet completely depending on how heavy the bait is. I’ve tried them with a few soft baits and didn’t end up liking the outcome. I had this problem with trebles when I did the magnet mod. I pulled the hooks out of some hollow body frogs and they held in place perfectly because there is a big flat area for the magnet to grab onto. I can't post a video on here for some reason but if you check out my instagram I have a video of the setup
waynem
When you buy magnets make sure you are getting rare-earth neodymium magnets. These are way stronger than "regular" magnets and the small size ones are less than a buck. There is a big difference in holding power! cascadekiller
bigpoppabass
I have the islide, hard castaic, and catch 22. I have not had issues with hooking fish on any of em. Funny thing about islide is they have models wid em and wid out (Philly steak lingo there).
Treyc_cuthbertson
in my personal experience they have a little worst hookup ratio its not much but there is a difference but its up to you is the worse hookup ratio worth it having a less chance of getting hung up and a more realistic profile
