Payevhizmoney
New to the swim bait scene. Read the noob section. Still confused. Looking for advice on rod and reel selection. So far I have a swaver 168 and I’m going to pick up a Hudd 68 maybe an 8†Hudd too. I’d like to also grab a spro rat. Looking into some more soft baits rigged with an owner beast hook. I know there is not one rod to cover everything, but I’d like to get a close as I can to being able to throw what I’ve listed. Dobyns? Not sure what model. Looking at either a Shimano Calcutta or Tranx. But I’d consider others. Not sure which model to get for the baits I’m throwing. I know there have probably been 1000’s of posts like mine so any help is appreciated. Mostly looking for model specifics on rod and reels for what baits. Thanks! I live in Southern California if that changes any of the gear preference. johnjohnC
BrownSteele86
I would suggest a Dobyns Fury 806. That’s what I started with and I threw a lot of different stuff with it... I had no regrets. Inexpensive, versatile, and a quality blank Payevhizmoney
BrownSteele86
The Tranx is a good reel also, I would suggest the 400. Only bc it isn’t much bigger and holds more line, it will also allow you to up the size of your baits if you choose to in the future... which you will haha. It will handle heavier baits potentially better longterm. Payevhizmoney
drewmoniz
Dobyns 795 and/or 806 are a great place to start. Try using the search function in the top right corner. Lots of info about starter rods/setups on here. There's also a member reviews section. Payevhizmoney
MaineBassin
Dobyns 795 with a tatula 200hd. Just my opinion. Many many choices. Payevhizmoney
Treyc_cuthbertson
I second the Robyn's 806 light enough to throw smaller baits consistently but still enough rod there to use if you wanna throw something bigger.
