The first day I went looking for snakeheads but couldn’t find any, when I did find one and try to catch it this 4lbs bass kept harassing me like he wanted to be caught……. so I obliged him. The second day I did a lot of scouting for peacocks, I found a bunch and tossed a 4†MF and minnow at them, they would swat at it but not take it, I ended up with nothing. The one bright side of the day was I found some beautiful Cuban anoles hanging around, I have not seen one in years. Today I went out with a friend in his boat to fish for peas using conventional lures and all I could catch were largemouth. After I left him I decided to go back to the spot from yesterday but use a hardbait which immediately paid off. I ended up with 5 fish up to 2lbs, two lost ones, multiple misses and another new swimbait species for me, an Oscar. It was also my largest so far at 1.5 pounds. The few fish I got right before dark was when I was burning the bait hard and they would come at it full speed and T-bone it, it was quite a thrill. Oh by the way, this is why I don’t take my expensive hard baits with me; these are the kinds of thing you find in and around the water down there. flaswimbaiter Posted May 4, 2012 Author Report Share Posted May 4, 2012 You have to do a lot of driving and walking to find spots, but basically all the canal just north of the airport south have them. Keep the baits small, they like it flashy and erratic. If you have a small swimbait that can suspend, you would really better your odds of catching one.
