Although the temp was 45 degrees when I got up at 5:30 this morning, I still decided to go fishing……. which was a very good decision. I started the morning with a topwater, but only got a few follows; I stitched to a glide and immediately caught this little football.

Soon after I made a long cast along a weed line and got nailed hard, but this bass was silver. :D After losing three in a row, I finally landed a freshie snook. I was happy to catch him; I just wish he had been as big as the others I lost. He was about 24-25â€.

Because of the cold water I pulled my SS Hyper Herring out of my saltwater box, because it basically suspends. I went to a neighboring lake and had a pig of a fish swipe at it right in front of me, but totally miss it.

On the way home I stopped by one more spot to make a few cast, I was still tossing the HH, pausing it along the weed edges. I had stopped it right in front of me then all of a sudden a fish exploded out of the weeds between me and my bait and inhale it. :o It scared the crap out of me. I basically set the hook and yanked her onto to the shore. She went 5 pounds even.

After seeing that violent strike I decided to keep moving down the shoreline. I was working my bait in and got stuck on some weeds, I popped it lose and this huge shadow came out of nowhere and pounced on it. I didn’t have time to react; I just started running backwards trying to keep a tight line. The fish’s face got buried in the weeds so all I could do is drag it onto shore. I didn’t even know how big the fish was until I removed all the junk and just stood there dumbfounded…..it was a beast!!! After a few photos, a ride on the scale and a great release, I headed home exhausted. She went 9lbs 7oz, a new personal best for me.

Dam it feels good to be a swimbaiter!!!!!
