are you using braid?

I do use braid (30lbs pp). matching the hatch... like fly fishing :)

most often than not, that will be your problem. you will catch fish, but im confident you will catch / hookup more on mono/flouro. i prefer mono.

:)

good luck

Id try and throw a floating hardbait into the mix.

X2 - A "7 MS Slammer might also be a good bait to try out.

i was thinking a slammer also, and oddly just like you, the X2 reminded me of that haha.

I'm sure the WI guys will lead you in the right direction. don't get discouraged, we all get skunked sometimes but then there are BEAST days that make up for it!

im in MN and i second different retrieval speeds.

i hear that a ton of fish get caught on the s-l-o-w roll. i havent yet. not even in winter.

all of my fish have been caught on a moderate to fast retrieve with no pauses with a couple on the deadstick. it didnt matter if the baits were floaters or sinkers.

good luck
