  1. I don't as much anymore simply because I go to school in Norcal. Used to stick swimmy fish there al the time, problem is like you stated they're on shad that are the size of your thumbnail. I pretty much just throw the Vixen when I go there.
  2. I'm well aware that there's a few big bluegill there, as well as the small shad, but the lake used to be jugged with little gills. I got on the topwater bite this summer too.
  3. Back in the early 90s it was loaded with shad a bluegill and there was plenty of hydrilla and other cover that people had dumped in. Few people fished it and there were plenty of big fish. Roughly 10 years ago it started going down hill when they dumped the grass carp and started using herbicides. Now both lakes are essentially fish bowls with a few random spots of structure making it hard for any large amount of bait to reproduce. More and more people that don't live there fish it and keep bass. Honestly it pisses me off, it's a sensitive subject.
  4. I grew up there. Shame what it is now.
  5. I have to disagree with this. I have owned quite a few swimbait rods and some of the OG rods that were considered OG swimbait rods in the BBR series, and can specifically site the 957. Yes the 957 is an absolute broomstick but it has a parabolic bend, but parabolic means it bends damn near the whole blank down, regardless of the stiffness of the blank. Having grown up fishing saltwater rods parabolic to me means the rod truly "bends". Parabolic just means the rod bends more. For instance, pick up a 9J0J, not a GG90J, and ya, it's a broom stick (rated 30-60 which is an amazing rod for throwing stuff like the 7X Salas). The 90J is a lot like the 957 in the fact that it recovers quick but it's still parabolic. In salt the only time I truly prefer fishing a slow rod is on the iron or maybe cows where you need the soft tip when you're fishing straight spectra at the and the fish is doing the death circles at the boat. The only time I feel I need a truly parabolic rod is when I am fishing a hard bait with treble hooks since the gap is so much smaller than a singe hook gap. But thats just my take, take it for a kid's experience.
  6. You guys ever use windon leaders like they use for big game? the ones I'm referring to area piece of hollow spectra with a loop spliced in one end and the mono or flouro spliced into the other end, the connection is super smooth. You just tie a knot like a biminni twist and do a loop to loop connection.
  7. Guys, just and FYI, there is a crack in the baby wake near the joint, I didn't notice it before, and just want to keep it up front and honest. I've fished it and haven't had any problems with it, but I don't want to screw anyone over.
  8. Forgot to mention, I am trying to sell these as a pair first.
  9. Both baits have been fished. Wake Jr has ST-56's and the Baby Wake has Decoy quad hooks. Prefer to meet in person halfway or nearby, I am located in Vallejo.
  10. Throwin PEARL on some stones in MDR. This was my big fish of the night. It was nicer than it looked, and those MDR fish pull hard. We were both fishing 65# or 80# spectra to 50# flouro. My buddy also got one that was around 5. We were cruising to another stone, when I thought I saw another skiff running with no lights. I thought maybe that I was just tired and seeing stuff since it was about 4am, but we slowed down anyway. As soon as we slowed down, there was a giant swirl right in front of us that gave me a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. Seconds later a f-ing ORCA breeched less than 10' away from the 15' skiff we were on. Needless to say I needed to check my pants after that.
  11. Have a 400TE in excellent condition. Has a couple very small marks on the sideplate. Only been fished in freshwater. $280, no trades. Local pickup in OC.
