  1. The winning bid for the bait was $155. Thanks to all who bid and congrats to the winner! The bait will be shipped today and the donation made to the Mission of Hope. Have a safe and Merry Christmas everyone!
  2. I hope the members of this site keep in mind that fishing and swimbaiting is fun. Talking about baits, posting up photos, sharing tips, etc... seems to me thats where the focus should be.
  3. I've received a bunch of bids so far - thank you! I'm going to close bidding tonight so I can get the funds to Mission of Hope and get the bait shipped out on Thursday to the winning bidder. Anybody out there thinking about bidding, make it happen!
  4. Same here - I've been glad to pay a lot more than retail for some baits I have...
  5. For a few months I had been telling a buddy of mine about catching some quality fish on the hyper herring and wake jr. I showed him the baits and he kept telling me I was insane - no bass is going to eat those We worked out a trip one morning shortly after his latest claims of my insanity and in the first 10 minutes I landed an 8lb LMB on an HBC Wake Jr He freaked out and put down his spinnerbait and I let him borrow a hyper herring. He caught his first swimbait fish that day - and a few others, and has been bitten by the bug ever since.
  6. I'm not a fan of snaps in general - even on more "traditional" bass fishing tackle for many of the reasons already mentioned. The owner hyperwire split rings have yet to fail on any baits I own with them installed, so I don't have a problem with them at all.
  7. I use a Calais 200ASV for some smaller baits - 6" injected punkers, 6" hudds, and other smaller baits. Outside of that, I prefer 300 sized reels for the vast majority of the baits I throw.
  8. That's very cool man!! Congrats
  9. Keep the bids rolling in guys! I have been asked if I was going to identify the winning bidder and the price. I think that the winning bidder should have the option to remain anonymous, but I would like everyone to know the amount of the donation being made to this great organization. I've gotten more PM's than I thought I would, and I thank each and every one of you all who have placed bids so far. In order to be fair to the current high bidder, I don't want to disclose the CURRENT high bid, but it is a good bit above the retail price of the bait. Thanks everyone and keep bidding!
  10. I am offering up one brand new 3:16 Lure Company floating freestyle herring, white with red fogged gills up for auction to the highest bidder. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Mission of Hope in Knoxville, TN. They are a small organization with only 3 paid staff members - most of their much needed work is done by volunteers. 91% of every dollar they receive is given directly to families in need in Southern Appalachia. More information about Mission of Hope can be found here for those interested. They are a 501©(3) organization so any direct contributions are tax deductable of course. http://www.missionofhope.org/history.html Please PM your bid. I hope to keep the bidding open until Thursday and want payment to be made by then at the latest. The winning bidder can make a direct contribution to Mission of Hope by phone via credit card or send a paypal payment to me and I will make the contribution. Once payment has been made or the direct contribution verified, the bait will ship to the winning bidder. The bait will be shipped USPS Priotiry Mail and will be packed well for protection.
  11. Q: How many big bass are in your lake? A: More than I'll ever catch... that's all I know
  12. If you fish during the spawn, you're going to catch spawning fish whether or not you're bed fishing. My biggest problem with fishing the spawn are tournaments where guys are loading the livewell with big females that were about to drop their eggs. The spawn is already stressful, then add being caught, sloshed around in a livewell all day, weighed in, then dumped back into the water potentially miles from where they were spawning... it doesn't sound like it can be anything but bad for the overall health of the fishery. That being said, I HAVE bedfished and ALWAYS catch and release immediately. I'm not saying it's good or bad, just being straight up about it. I do know that I've had my ass kicked by bed fishermen in tournaments where I KNEW there were big females to be caught. I just won't do it myself.
  13. In my neck of the woods, the stripers will still come up and eat topwater baits on occasion this time of year under the right conditions, but we've had a really cold December and it really hurt the bite
  14. I'm excited to see what's next as well... hope the inspiration to build great baits keeps coming from wherever it comes from
  15. If MissRina breaks out her collection, we're all gonna have to bow down!! Very cool bait and I'm glad to see you here as well Rina!
  16. Amazing stuff Ben!! Keep 'em coming guys!
  17. Regardless of why, i'm glad it's back
  18. I wasn't referring to you and I have no idea what you're talking about as I haven't read anything like that. My post was an expression of a philosophy I have, and some others do as well, and one I wanted to put out there - nothing more. Some understand, some agree, some disagree - all of which are fine. The point is that just because someone looks at a bait or a rod or a reel as a piece of art that can be appreceiated in a way other than actually fishing with it absolutely doesn't make them wrong. Keep tossing your baits, buy, sell, trade them, or simply put them on the shelf to look at - they're yours so do whatever you want to with them, just don't "hate" on others for doing something different than you would!
  19. I'm glad to see guys here on SU not "bashing" or "s**t talking" some of the guys who like to collect baits. There are so many things in this world that people find beautiful, interesting, or otherwise worthy of collecting, it's only natural that fishermen with a "collectors bone" would want to have baits that ellicit emotion. I am a proud collector of 3:16 baits simply because I view them not only as fish catching tools, but also as works of art. Some of them I fish, some I do not - so be it. I do it for myself because it makes me happy, not for accolades or attaboys from anyone else. I posted pics of those Real Deals here on SU because they're beautiful, and because I had hoped that any negative comments would be met with harsh criticism in the event someone felt the need to post anything less than positive. Fortunately, the replies on the "Swimbait Collections" thread have all been positive so far and I really hope it stays this way. I think it would certainly encourage guys who like to collect baits, from which ever manufacturer, to post them up for others to see.
  20. Prototypes often don't have scales... that could be it, but it's just a guess!
  21. The bottom left 6" Kokanee is a sinker, the rest are floaters...
