  1. Yeah I've run a 42' Ocean and a 43' Tiara in NY for the last three years, just trying to figure out how to give the new guys some guidance.
  2. Anyone on here troll for tuna, marlin, etc? Curious, how many rods do you normally pull in a spread? I've been bouncing between 5 and 6 rods, a dredge, and 2 daisy chain teasers with a 2-3 man crew.... Debating putting a second dredge out once the crew can handle it. Any advice on teaching new guys? Hard to instill years of experience in a new guy, especially if they don't know the basics.
  3. Being in the maritime industry and using electronics of all makes and models.... lowrance is hands down the best platform I've ever used. Furuno is second and Sperry Marine would be thrid, but those are more saltwater/ CHIRP oriented units.
  4. Ask Rob Belloni if your joints should squeak.
  5. I've caught a ton of big fish fishing a 250 fast. Put 4 or 5 grams under the skin until it swims "right."
  6. Throw them in any box. Carboard, tubaware, plano open, etc etc. Not hard.
  7. I think I've only lost one fish on a triple trout, so yeah. They help.
  8. It's an aluminum v hull boat. That's all that matters, so no. Gregor makes a boat that is somewhat similar, as does lund and every other aluminum boat builder.
  9. Why not just fish a jerkbait and save a bunch of money when you break off? Or a Tady 45 or live bait... but yes, your rod and reel will be fine. They are built on saltwater blanks and all shimano reels are good to go for the salt for the most part (except the core).
  10. Old Valco style aluminum. This is the flipside subforum though.
  11. M1 inshore is a great rod, as well as there swimbait rods. Just different actions. He was asking about the black diamond/UMBX series though. The 790H in both the hybrid (classic) and normal USB version is by far my favorite small swimbait rod around. Only other rod I would use a Phenix Black Diamond Inshore Assassin 760M-XF extended to 7'9". Very similar rod, but lighter weight and faster tip. Better for lighter weight baits and leadhead style baits for saltwater.
  12. Post a pic, check all the guides, and check your reel as well. Sometimes levelwinds get knicked as well. try loading up the rod statically and looking to see if it touches the blank anywhere.
  13. I have used enough snaps for real fish to know that they sometimes fail. Not saying you can't get by with them, but i don't use them except for the big stuff (tuna, marlin).
  14. Split ring or direct. A snap is asking for trouble.
  15. Best dude around. He builds a sick stick, very pleased with my rods from him.
  16. Maxima, cxx, pf, izor, ande, and sunline shooter are all good lines. Never had a probpem with any of them.
  17. Use the regular model, not the hybrid
  18. Yeah, great guys usually do send those type pf messages. If you threaten murder to a spearfisherman, you're definitely a kook. I feel like none of you even know what kook means. Cody posted some valid info that is true and got attacked. Not his fault.
  19. Wrong guy homeboy. And if you're flaunting about topping someone's pb, you might want to be careful. It's a slippery, cocky slope.
