  1. Nice work. Clemente is the place!

Justin is a great guy. Were you fishing with Benny over there too?

I was there 2 weeks ago and we had a good day. A few between 6-8lbs to top off the day!

The big hardbaits work well over there - just ask Mr Ellis ;)

  2. Nice video Josh!

Sometimes its just not fair to others on the boat when you have the Mac bait tied on :lol::lol: !!!!

Have you taken your boat over to SCI yet? I may be heading over Sunday if you are interested in buddy boating over.

  3. Went looking offshore Tuesday for mahi and yellowtail, never found any.

We decided to swing by Clemente and found a great pick on some nicer grade calicos.

99% on the weedless #6 Pearl swimbait in PBOT color - a few on the 3:16 Mack bait

Big fish of the day - thought it would go 10 when we netted it but just a few ounces shy of the mark...it bit in about 5 feet of water and left a hole on the surface about 3 feet in diameter.

So this next fish is over 6lbs - however when the guy holding it is the size of an NFL linebacker it looks more like 3-4

Great day of straight swimbait fishing - we figured 150 fish in about 7 hours

  4. Went to Baccarac with my son Sean and freisnds Shane & Travis for 6 days.

Killer time all around eat, fish, swim, shoot shot guns, repeat daily

The crew at the lake are just the best, if you haven't been you gotta go...

Tough bite but our friends Paulie & Manuel put us on the fish.

The fish were all deep 12-25 feet - 3:16 Mission Fish & Minnows, War Bait heads with the 5" Pearls or the new 7" MC Swimbaits, DD22's, 1.5 oz Revenge spinner baits (a few with the 3:16 Boogers), did the trick....

...also check out the custom Japanese Topwater baits fished by a few folks from Japan!

  5. Thanks for the comments it was nice to get a few big fish!

Very nice! What setup did you use if you don't mind me asking?

    Curado 300 EJ - 6 1/2 ft Crucial rod xtra heavy - 40lb power pro - #6 Pearl Swimbait

in PBOT color (Purple Back - Orange Tail) - 10/0 weighted Owner Beast hook

Skated yesterday, off for a surf this morning that's about all the game I have left these days - the wife won't let me play with the dirt bikes or girls any more :lol:

    ....then back to SCI tomorrow!

Sounds like a few of the crew were out banging the wall last night, hope you guys wrecked 'em!

  6. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

Went to Clemente yesterday and found a few nice biters.

Big weedless swimbait in tight ( read in the waves & foam - the kinda places Mickey enjoys fishing with me :twisted: )

Biggest of the day - we'll call her Ocho

    Quite a few 4's & 5's as well.

Can't beat So Cal in December

  7. Thanks guys it was a blast! Made crab cakes tonight with all the meat we had from that trip.

Josh- it's really pretty simple to catch these guys - all were caught less that 1/2 mile off the beach. A boat, a few hoop nets/rope/float, DFG lobster report card, some bait and rocky structure and your good. PM me if you want more details. I went out kinda blind my first trip ever and we still caught 6 legals.

I even got Micky out there a few times pulling nets in the dark :lol:

  8. Did a little combo trip in between rain storms. Started looking for bass but nothing on the swimbaits. Hooked soemthing huge on a sabiki rig that we followed for 20 minutes before the hook pulled - seabass, thresher ??? we never saw it!

Decided to catch a bit of dinner and it worked out well

    mdrbugs.jpg

Pulled a heavy net from over 90 feet and this bad boy came aboard and will be joining the family for dinner soon!

    9.3 on the richter scale

    bug9.jpg

Off to Clemente in the morning and maybe this time we'll catch something worth a photo or two :o:o

  9. Nice!!

Went out last weekend with the kids and we killed the rock fish in shallow water (100-150 ft) on swimbaits. First time I had done that and it was a blast. Also caught a few decent sand bass.

All on 7" swimbaits with 2.5 oz leadheads

  10. Talked about fishing the wall around 8pm last night with friend Mike, by 9pm we were headed out of HH.

Nice evening - about 25 fish with the two biggest

    wall1.JPG

3:16 Mighty Minnow and Pearl swinmbaits on the Revenge Skirted jigs got'em.

  11. Nice flattie! The wind has been a pain the past few weeks and it's still looking to be snotty for the next week. I surfed up in HB today and the water has dropped to maybe the low 50's from the past 2 days of wind.

Once it backs off and the water warms a bit, it should explode!

  12. We've been looking to find a weather window to hit Clemente for over 4 weeks and found one today.

Lots of 3-4lb fish with a few larger models taken but more missed.

99% on swimbaits, hard and soft with a few on the iron.

Here is the spokesman of the day with a few of the sexy models that climbed aboard for a visit

    sci110501.JPG

Good times Mickey, we'll hit it again soon!

    :shock::shock:

  13. and funny these guys taste like chicken....

    mahi1.jpg

    :o:o:o

lol, whats the story on this guy?

We actually found it floating dead over at Cat and when we drove by it we both said - photo op!!!

We told both our wives we caught it on live bait and they were furious at us for "killing" a baby dolphin. Best part was we let them sit on it for about a day before we told them whta really happened! Way too funny!!!

  14. Here are my thoughts on calicos and the follow up questions asked.

As far as baits I tend to throw and get best results. It will always depend on what the fish want each day and each day is different. I usually start bir and with the folowing and then adjust from there

    Soft Swimbaits:

At Clemente the #1 bait for me is Pearl #6 in PBOT (Purple Back Orange Tail) rigged weedless with a #10 Owner Beast hook

    DSC_00991.JPG

    pbot2.jpg

If the fish don't like a larger full bodied swimbait then I will throw the larger Mission Fish in a red flake color.

If fishing the Wall, I like the 5" Pearls or Mighty Minnows or Minnows on a heavy 1.5+ oz Revenge Jig head (the 3:16 minnow jig hedz combo works well for big green bass too)

    bac11.jpg

A Hudd will always be an option....

    hud-1.jpg

    Hardbaits

Either the 3:16 6" Real Deal or Mackeral baits - as seen in the photos - in a brown/amber color or the Kelp Kritter in Amber

    criteer6.jpg

Each of the hardbaits presents a different profile and many days the fish want a larger, wider bait - 3:16's or a skinnier bait - Kelp Kritter

Also the Lucky Craft Pointer 100 in Citrus Shad is a killer bait

    Do calicos have teeth...

    SCIThumb.JPG

:lol: ...they do and the Rising Sun holds up well with them (better than my thumbs most days).

One non-swimbait "jig" that should never be discounted when fishing for calicos is the surface iron - I like the Tady 45 in Amber color (anyone notice a pattern in MY favorite color).

...and MICKEY - this is what a 10+ looks like

    ed10-4.jpg

    :lol::lol::lol::lol:

....hope this helps. Of course you can catch just about anything on a swimbait, right???
