  1. Looking to pick up a slow sinking freestyle bass. PayPal fees on me, and hoping to stay around $180 shipped.

Prefer lit up color or regular bass in NIB condition, but am open to other options if you guys got 'em. PM me with any suggestions. Serious buyer...let's get a deal done.

  2. My pluton gave out at the end of three weeks swimbaiting. Needless to say not happy. The reel didn't engage after some casts, but the real kicker was when the levelwind just stopped. Called daiwa and they wanted me to send it to a place for repairs. It's a three week old reel. Shouldn't have any problems at all! I demanded a new one, so they said send it to main place in Cali. Not impressed by customer service so far. We will see if they make it right.

That's nothing bro. I was running my line through the rod eyes the other day and my rod slid down the side of the boat and the reel fell and got a scuff on it. Now it doesn't look NEARLY as purty when it's sitting on my desk.

    Sad day.

  3. 1 Pluton was harmed in the making of this film

8 Bass were severely pissed off ...

I'm not a tech guy, so I can either sit here on a computer all day trying to figure out how to add music you won't like or I can go fish... I'm going fishing, so take a minute to crank up your favorite music and enjoy!!!!!!

    AWESOME video bro.

The whole highlight tape strung together is even more impressive, and the fact that you pounded those donkeys in such a short time is pretty mean...

I like the pitch pattern with the rising son you breakdown in the video - def something I'm going to have to add the arsenal. I hadn't even thought about throwing like that until this. The breakdown portion of the video was the best part. I know lots of guys will just dump a line or two down on you and expect you to figure it out on your own or already know what they're talking about...the detailed breakdown and walkthrough can save hours of experimentation on the water. Solid video.

  4. Just read the whole thread...

Pretty much why I have a knot in my stomach till I get working tracking number from whoever I bought a bait from. Hope it works out for you bro. I would nail this dude with any charges you can bring against him.

Would definitely help to have contact information (track people down and pm them) of anyone that he's ripped off recently. If you had several instances documented when you approached the authorities, it would really help you get your case heard and get some resolution.

    Good luck.

  5. $275.00 TYD OBO

Hey bro, I'm going to call Daiwa today and see how long/much the turnaround on fixing that level wind will run me...

Does the reel have any rash or other beauty marks?

Put me down for a $225 offer right now. I'll get back to you pretty quick today - If someone hits you higher than that, I understand.

  6. Some of the grass I am gonna fish is kinda deep 8-14 ft. I'm gonna throw it on floro to help get it deep. That's the only thing I'm worried about.

The freestyles do pretty well as big traps. Like flyfor said, sometimes it scares them, but I would imagine a larger fish wouldn't get as spooked, but it just depends on the fish...

As for fishing deep - that's where they ought to be - I've caught some great fish on deeper weedlines. We have a lot of sunken trees and another junk mixed in with grass, so I always pack a lure retriever. Throw them on 25lb invis (personal favorite) and look for weedlines with easy access to deeper water (if there is any). The bigguns like to come up and cruise those lines for food then roll back down to deeper/safer water.

Pray never stands its ground. It runs!

Don- Dying' date=' injured, sick, and exhausted from being chased prey can't run... If given the choice all predators key on the easy. That's natures way.

With a hard bait having so many unrealistic cues, I agree speed can trigger a response that otherwise the fish wouldn't have made. Generally, instead of using speed to disguise my bait, I prefer to use movement. This allows me to keep it in the zone without giving the fish to good of a look at what I'm throwing.[/quote']

I tend to agree with this.

To use the blanket statement that pray never stands its ground isn't always the case...I know that most baitfish tend to flee when being chased, but there are entire patterns that rely on dead/dying/or unaware prey that involve little to no movement.

Consider a jerkbait - I hate them, but I know there's a lot of people that throw them exclusively because they give off the impression of a dying or injured baitfish. As water temps drop, several baitfish species die off, and slowly pause, suspended for minutes at a time, regardless of being chased or not, because they're dying. They remain motionless and flutter to the bottom as their life cycle ends. Nearly every bite on jerkbaits come on extended pauses. Fish key on them because they're literally "dead" still, and easy prey.

That's not to mention the numerous baits that excel at deadstick techniques. Senkos, Flukes, jigs, and the countless posts on here about folks throwing out big baits and just waiting till they get bit. Not harping on the statement, just wanted to point out there's some value in slowing her down sometimes.

Love the info on this thread. Don - that writeup was great. Awesome amount of detail and insight into your approach. Good stuff from several other folks as well. Makes me want to get on the water!

  8. Great posts guys.

Exceptionally detailed report reelreport! Let me guess: you either made an A in English comp; you're a technical writer / illustrator; or both?

James - actually a UI designer, but I spent way too much time drawing tanks and machine guns as a kid. haha. Thanks for getting me going in big baits....

and reelreport... if Mickey does make one in Tilapia and you take it to Falcon, you'd better have your big boy braid spooled up :D

I can only imagine the damage that bait could do there

Haha I know. I'm thinking of going 80+!!!

  9. The picture of the bait has the hook in it, just got to look carefully 8-)

Ha! Of course. I'm a tard.

Thanks for the RIDICULOUSLY fast response. :o

When you crimp the 7strand on it, I take it doesn't slide up the line anymore when you hook a fish?

  10. Simply amazing review!!! Great job!

Thanks bro. Saw your stuff earlier. Was a good read.

    Jam,

Thanks for the report and helping me out when I post my questions.

    Agreed. Good guy for sure.

    Reel,

Thanks for adding to it. Great job.

This section is really going to help me out and make me beat my PB this spring.

Hope so man. Good luck. Let everyone know when you slam that giant!

Thanks for the response guys. The review was a lot of fun. I'll work on getting more pics and videos into the next round. Anything else you guys would like to see added or that can be done better? Feedback rocks.

Does anyone have any pics of them hitting fish on the bait? Love to see what other guys are catching on baits I throw....

  11. I take a spit ring and crimp 60lb seven strand to one side, then run it through the top of the body, then crimp on the hook. I also cut away some of the fin to make it stealthier.

    Hope this helps!

I will try to get some more detailed pictures today.

    Just saw this. Sounds awesome.

Got any pics with it rigged up like this? Thanks again for the review man. Love the discussion in this thread.

  12. I've been fishing these baits a little more lately, and was wondering if anyone fishes them without a split ring on the treble? (tie line directly to the treble)

I've experimented with taking mine off and it sits better on the bait...Is there a specific reason it's there that I'm missing? It makes an odd angle when tied to the line and hook is embedded, imo. Thoughts?

  13. .

Thanks for the words everyone. Glad you guys liked it. Hopefully I can kick a few more out.

Reel report , that's just awsome man.

Thanks man, I appreciate it. I'll work on some video for the next couple and get them in to the reviews. The baits are sweet --

Did you paint the diagrams? Because this report is absolutely amazing! Way to set a new standard!

Good stuff, thanks. They were digitally painted. Wish I was that good with real watercolors. Would have gotten at least a B in art class. haha.

    .

  14. Haha sorry guys for the post dump. I'm on my phone and it logged me out when I was typing in the last half....so I got sliced in half. This ^ is the full version. Feel free to delete the first one...

Thanks for the props guys. Was fun. I'll work on some video for the next one 8-)
