  1. $30 tyd gift or trade for a 8" trout pattern hudd
  2. Only comes with one hook? Rip off...
  3. I know who does them and that they look good but I am wondering how well they hold up. Are they as durable as paint? Seems like every pic I see is right after the baits been finished before it's fished. So what's your experience for those of you who actually have some time fishing wrapped baits?
  4. Just take the skin off to get to the weights. Take the front weight out and shave a little off with a razor blade. Put it back together and test it in a bucket of water. Might need to do it a few times before you get the sink rate you want. You can also test it in different water temps to see how that effects it. Lots of info on here on how to do it.
  5. I heard a deps 250 tuned to suspend works pretty well....
  6. Mags are great baits, they swim well at all speeds and look fantastic in the water. From my experience, mags get beat up pretty easy. The baits I have loose the fins really quick and have broken harnesses so don't use the extra line tie. But even with a broken harness the bait can still be fished. And ya, the prices suck. Realprey 10" is really nice, it's a big heavy bait, much bigger feel than the mag. For the dobyns guys I'd say throw it on a 908. You can get by with a 807 but the 867 is too soft IMO. The price is right at $50. The tail kick on a realprey at slow speeds is not as hard as a hudd or mag. You can contact the owner directly and he can make the bait any color and rof you like. Those are the 2 big soft baits I have a decent amount of experience with. It's hard to say get one over the other, they both catch fish. I tend to have a mag tied on more frequently though.
  7. To better answer your question I still think it's the best glide bait out there. It's the only bait I've fished that swims perfect at any speed, you can fish it at any depth and it will stay in that water column, and they are really easy to modify.
  8. When I first fished the 250, fish were retarded for it. Doing stuff I've never seen fish do for a bait. They still work but these west coast fish learn quick. They learn the swim and all glide baits are less productive for me. I still love that bait and still catch fish on it but it's more of a grind now.
  9. I had a few years of 100% bapes. This year I was maybe 80%, and I caught my PB on a jig. I'm pretty sure I had this fish hooked on a baitsmith about an hour before she ate a jig. Sometimes it pays to switch things up.

  12. No way the hooks got him, they don't come out that easy.... Lucky for that kid a little girl was casting and didn't drive the hooks home.
  13. Lost an eye on my whinkle and my deps eyes don't fit so I pulled an eye off an old crank bait. ish is gonna get lit up.
  14. I have a kayak and a little boat rigged for electric only lakes and I almost never use the kayak. Being able to stand up and see fish following your bait is huge, not to mention casting these big baits. I will say that the kayak I have is not a kayak you can easily stand up in. If the lakes you fish have boat launches id say get a boat.
  15. I live 20 minutes away from lake chabot. Add a couple trout in that 19lber caught last month and you're close to a world record.
  16. The usual suspects. The 3 baits I throw the most.
  17. The 250s won't glide unless you put enough weight in them. I tried to make a floating glide out of a sk but it wouldn't swim unless you put enough weight to get it to sink. You can get them to swim right under the surface but if they float it will just drag along the water.
  18. I like the chest mount. It's comfortable to wear and I like the angle it gives you while fishing. I also have a head mount but use the chest more. Only problem is I tend to turn my body when I hook a fish so it takes a little getting use to if you don't want to miss the fight.
  19. imo the only lake in the area thats harder than Lafayette to fish is Shadow Cliffs. Add in that you are shore fishing and youre in for a tough day. If you are serious about fishing you need to get on the water, get on craigslist and pick up a used kayak. 90% of the swimbait fish ive caught at Lafayette are in areas that are not reachable by shore. All those big bass you see from shore in the cattails aren't targeting trout, you can cast at them all day and not get a bite.
  20. Is that paint or foil pealing? IMO that's just retarded. The paint is entirely gone on the front section, and that's not uncommon for Roman made baits. For how good of a bait maker this dude is you'd think he could find paint that sticks.
  21. That pic looks like a juvenile trout color, the original filmores where basically a darker rainbow trout pattern.
  22. I have an okuma Guide Select telescopic rod. It's a Heavy, handles baits 1-6oz and ive thrown up to a deps 250 on it. It's a 7'11" rod and breaks down to 6'9", I wish it broke down more but it does make it easier for traveling. I've owned it for a couple years with no problems.
