  1. thanks for all the input. I can see there are some pretty strong feelings on both sides of the issue. Appreciate the insight and everyone's take on it @dragger I see your point but this was a fat female in the middle of spawning season. So my vote would be release either way.
  2. Recently I got a buddy hooked on the swimbait game and we have since been out a few times. First time out, I met him at the lake to the sight of a nice 8-9 lb spawned out female on his stringer. Being that i was the one who got him into this type of fishing, I felt it was my responsibly to let him know why that was a bad idea. After giving him my reasons he was stuck on the fact that he was proud of his catch, and was set on having something to bring home for the BBQ. Considering it wasn't illegal to keep it, and the fact that I didn't want to overstep my boundaries and tell a grown man what he shoud or shouldn't be doing... I let it go. However, my conscience got the best of me and I had to bring it up again. He saw how much it affected me and made me a deal... I put a striper on his stringer and I could release the largie to fight another day. This ignited a fire in me and I don't think I have ever gotten so many casts out and covered so much ground in such a short period of time. Low and behold about10 minutes later I hooked him a nice little fish taco maker and I handed off the rod to him before I even had the fish unhooked and ran over to his stringer. The largie was a little tired at this point but after some rehab in the water she swam off just fine, and everyone was happy now my question. I have been fishing forever and I have my own set of beliefs about catch and release. I know (roughly) that it takes about 5-6 years for a bass To hit 12" in most places. I have looked for articles about why it's a good idea to catch and release nice size largemouth but have had no luck. Does anyone have any articles pertaining to this? I can't always be around to save the largemouth my buddy is catching and it would be nice if he had some literature to sway the mindset and realize that largemouth are to be treasured... Not bbq'ed
  3. Targeting big halibut and leopards. Went out today. The little leopards chase the bait around all day so it looks promising.Bad conditions. Too much salad to target the big ones effectively. But mark my words... A big leopard will be caught on my Slide sometime soon
  4. Recently in my quest to satisfy my need to try a new technique, I had a conversation about throwing big baits in the surf. Anyone ever tried it? I'm not talking about big hammers and stuff I'm talking full on LDC Calcutta swimbait setup swimbaits. My first weapon of choice will be my ayu slide swimmer. Figure it's a generic enough patten to pass as a Spanish mak. To start I will probably keep it pretty shallow and look for trenches(because my biggest fear in the surf will be hooking a big Leo or mud marlin and getting spooled with my expensive bait in their mouth). But I figure it can't hurt to try... Have a nice relaxing day on the beach... And possibly a nice big halibut is enticed by something they have never(or rarely ever) seen.

  16. Looking for a slide 250 in flash carp. Can get one from Japan for 130 shipped but I'd rather skip the wait time and pick it up in SoCal. Let me know if anyone is looking to get rid of one Thanks
  17. How do you like the action and quality compared to other wakes? I usually fish slammers which are 50 bucks. Is it worth the step up in price for the sk? They are double the cost of a slammer I don't want to spend that much if a slammer has just as good of an action to it
  18. Have heard mixed things about this bait. Have a couple slide swimmers but looking into a silent killer. Definitely the 250 size. Anyone have anything bad to say about it? Usually fish 9 or 12" slammers as my wake bait of choice. Any info would help thanks!
  19. Looking for a 250 (no interest in a 115) bloody carp. Not the flash carp. Pm if you have one to sell. Thanks in advance!
