Went out Last night for a quick one to try out my new SEEKER SSR810, and new to me CONQUEST 400 that i received from Member NOL. Weather was high 40's when i got to the lake. It had just rained the night before/early in the day and I know some spots that can really produce quality and numbers when there is good water flo. I knew it would be a longshot that there was still some current coming in at the location, but figured it would be worth a shot as there may still be some fish lurking about. 5 long casts/ slow grinds in and i get smoked while watching the ducks splash around mid channel under the moonlight. F%#$, is what i thought as that may be my only bite on this quick mission.. (Im still recovering from being sick as a dog all week, and its cold as all hell out for us Southern california folks). 2 casts later i start feeling like I'm getting into a better rhythm with the new setup and contact with the bait. As the Hudd makes its way back in. its tracking along the bottom and i feel it load up on a piece of cover, give her a pop and let settle on the bottom for a sec or two then give a couple quick cranks.. SLAM! A couple quick half's jumps and it starts planing in on the surface. Thought it was just a little guy..Bounce her up on the bank and feel the weight of the fish under the load of the rod... Fish Had shoulders... And CHOKED that 8" And a stuffed belly... No wonder she had trouble getting airborn. Thanks for reading.
