Hey everyone, I'm new to the forum, and thought I might throw a topic out there that I've been tinkering around with.
Just a little about me: I'm still very new to swimbaits (~1.5 years of dedicated use), but I've been bitten by the bug pretty bad and throw them pretty much whenever I have a rod in my hand these days. Having said that, I'm definitely still learning, and if any of points/questions come off as absurd, my apologies in advance.
For the past six months, I've been throwing most of my glide baits (negotiator custom, gan craft 178s and 230s, deps 175s and 250s and S-Waver 168s and 200s) on either a dobyns 795ML + lexa 300 combo or a Dobyns 806 SB + lexa 300. I usually spool up my lexa 300s with Shooter, anywhere from 20-25lb. I really haven't had any complaints with these setups, except for the fact that I could never make my S-Wavers or Gan Crafts dart and dance quite like I could with my negotiators or slide swimmers.
A couple of weeks ago, I went wading at daybreak to one of my favorite trout stocked ponds in my area, and realized that in my half-asleep daze I had grabbed my Dobyns 805CB (the randy mcabee model) by accident, which was paired up with a Lews BB1-Pro spooled up with 16lb Shooter. Knowing that I didn't have much time to fish before work, I decided to see how the setup would handle my gan craft 178s and S-Waver 168s. Despite being rated as a bit underpowered (805CB is rated up to 1.5 oz), I was really surprised how nicely this setup handled these baits, even more so than my dedicated swimbait setups.
Has anyone else had any success throwing injected glides on similar setups, or any other non-dedicated swimbait setups? Any thoughts on everyone's favorite glide bait setups would also be appreciated. I'm always up for hearing different perspectives.
