I had the same experience maybe five years back. Bruiser Striper hit center on a large plug, dove so hard I panicked and hamfist the drag. Center hook was gone, split ring still dangling. For what it's worth, I've been swapping to Owner for years but figured why bother just this once given size of provided hardware. Big mistake, never to be repeated. Props on your redemption.

Little late to the discussion, still prowling through topics, but for what it's worth I've been using the TA clips exclusively for the last several years with zero failure. 50, 125, 175 lb cover every bait I currently have. I've been through so many different clips over the years I don't recall. These are tough. Attachment requires more force than one might think to slide the tie. Ultra quick switch, weedless, reliable. I'm not 100%, but I believe they were developed for sw trolling. A recessed line tie may not accept it, same for any clip, but I've solved that problem by not using a lure that won't accept it. Pretty simple. It's not the only comparable clip available, but I trust it implicitly. Hope I was able to help. Peace.

BigSlant, seems you and are cut from the same cloth. I, like you, are the individuals to speak up on this topic though I spoke on TT instead. Sadly, I think I might have received maybe 3 or 4 responses in total. Which is a ^#@%&! joke, but it is what it is. The flurry I see here speaks volume. I don't frequent this site, but that may change. Props for shouting out. My personal letter sent to our representatives cannot be repeated in over 30 countries around the globe for fear of prosecution. I'm normally a fairly collected guy, but not this time I wasn't... To compound slightly, I'll try to keep it quick, was what really set me off on the topic. I had heard several years ago, by someone I trust well enshrined in Bay Area angling, about an arrangement between the state and three trawlers contracted under secrecy to run drag nets off our coast drowning Striper. It's been going on for years, veeeery quietly, and now this. The state can no longer justify slush spending to do it so they want to make it part of law, hence mandate budgeted expense. I have no factual evidence, but this isn't the type thing one makes up out of thin air. Writing about it, and calling out the state on the matter, brought no condemnation or refute of any kind. No explanation, no excuse, nothing. The state is hell bent on this stupid pipeline to SoCal and indigenous species are at risk. So rather than find an ulterior method to address the issue, they're blaming non-indigenous species as the cause. And naturally, of course, rather than help threatened species they've decided to kill everything else. We need to stay strong on this one. Peace.
