  1. Okuma guide select swimbait rods are very nice for the price.  Don't be so focused on what everyone else is using.  You are already on the right track.  Focus more on getting out and fishing. Bait in water is most important.  After you catch fish then make your adjustments.  I throw my rof 12s on okuma guide select XH paired with tranx 300 20 lb abrazx.  Rof 5s on okuma guide select H paired with curado 200 hg. Dobyns another great rod. So many great rods and reels out, it's 90 % personal preference. I'm in socal as well. Big fish here, just gotta put in the hours. Butch Brown Fred Hall show, don't miss it!

  2. I guess some dudes need a 807 to drive a hudd jig hook in the mouth of a bass but I don't . If you don't set the hook like a pansy, then I guess use the broomstick. I prefer I little action in my rods. Ya sometimes you need backbone but I'm just not sold on the broomsticks. The 867 is awesome. Trebles or hudds. Tick, wind slack, set the hook hard. To me some action in the rod helps keep the fish pinned. Again personal preference. Gotta try for yourself to really know what works for you

  4. I throw my waver 168 on my okuma guide select H paired with a curado 200 k with 12 to 15 lb sunline assassin. I love it. Remember tho, a lot of this stuff is personal preference so you may have to try what you like. I had never fished sunline before but tactical bassin recommended it so I gave it a try. Very happy. Usually run seaguar abrazx but thought I'd try something new. Either way don't think too much about it. Throw one one and go fish and see what feels good to you.

  5. Just spend the extra few bucks and get the Shimano Tranx 300. 5.8 gear ratio. You won't be disappointed. Throw some 20 lb floro on it. You'll be golden. Wide variety of baits you can throw on it. On the other hand, all the reels you mentioned are quality as well.

  6. Absolutely. Plenty to see. Plenty freshwater bass stuff. Plus Butchy B may toss ya a thumper tail after his seminar. Last year met Matt Newman and Kevin Mattson. Always an amazing day at the fred hall show. Maybe I'll see ya there. I'm really hoping Mike Gilbert is there. Would be awesome to meet him. His videos are awesome

  7. I hear you brother. At the end of the day it's all what you want to get out of it. I've been out many days in the past finesse fishing still getting skunked so I'd rather chuck the hudd all day for that one bite. I live in southern California and the lake I fish has giants just haven't stuck her yet. But I keep grinding cuz it's only a matter of time. I alway feel confident throwing the hudd Nov through April because of this baits reputation. This March will be 2 years now but patience, confidence and time on the water will pay off. It will be worth all the time spent when that teener hits the deck. So set your goal, pursue it, and never give up. That's what's it's all about. Blank, blank, blank, blank....Bang fish of a lifetime. Good luck out there guys

  8. No need to be sorry for anything kid. These post are putting smile on my face. Your right about the guy at clear lake. I just like the stuff cuz it stays on your bait for a few cast. Where as some of the thinner watery scents seem to come off after one cast. Then you end up spending more time dipping your bait in scent rather then fishing. I feel like the fish will keep the bait in there mouth longer before they spit it.

  9. Well.... I'd say not like you can't get bit without attractants bUT why not . Fish can definitely smell. After days on the water blank blank blank then bang 10 lber. Boiling your hudd tails, special paint jobs, modifying ring/hooks, ATTRACTANT, BB rigs, whatever it may be sure why not? Gives us confidence. And that's what you need when your looking for that one big bite. I use hot sauce. Sticks to your hudds/hard baits great. Reminds me of an old girlfriend of mine. So what ever we gotta do for that special moment of time when you swing and feel that fish, WE DO! Good luck out there guys. Hope you catch the fish of a Lifetime
