  1. I haven’t had a chance to wrap my 807 yet but I do have that, the 808 and 809 lmx (different from the IM, the lmx is a beast of a rod). If you can wait a couple days I can throw them both on a deflection board for comparison. I just gave them both a pull, first thoughts are actions are both kinda similar, more mod-fast than fast. Phenix Black Diamond blanks (psw800 series) may be more in line with what you’re looking for. FWIW, I’ve probably got about a half dozen orders in with NFC, about 15ish blanks in total. Shipping windows have been anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months…..lately more on the quicker side. I’ve noticed more of a delay when I order during sales, understandable with the volume purchasing going on. IAs a rule I dont anticipate having them immediately but I’m always satisfied with the service and blanks.
  2. Indeed…..and $5k is gonna sound like pennies when it’s time to buy a home and buyers are going $50k over list price and that’s on top of a $150k price hike for a real flipper.
  3. I swap most of my wakebait hooks out for quad decoys. They stick a lot of the short strikers and soft biters. They also stay pinned.
  4. I once got ahold of my buddys phone and went on a posting spree in a local forum too. ……let’s just say the entire community learned of his vast love for hot dogs.
  5. I’m a diesel consumer…..East San Jose as of Tuesday. This one was on the high side but they’ve been between this and 5.79ish. I’m wiping the dust off my motorcycle and tuning that sucker this weekend, it’s comin off the bench and going back into rotation.
  6. That’s the one app I have zero problem paying for. I use it to supplement my lowrance gps unit on the boat, as a primary for when I’m shore pounding and have killed countless hours studying charts to id spots while I’m at my desk at work lol. Best part is you don’t need cell signal to use it, the built in gps works so long as the unit has power. I use it for both fresh and saltwater fishing. The charts are super detailed and better than some of the preloaded maps I’ve seen on lower end chartplotters. The tide graphs are golden, don’t have to check my tide book and no conversions. When I go on someone else’s boat I can take my numbers/data with me and actually had to use it as my chartplotter when I visited my sisters place on Clearlake (her boat didn’t even have a depth finder). When I got a new fishery I usually spend quite a bit of time looking at the charts to map out likely spots, riverbeds/drop-offs/flats/points/etc. This past summer my local lakes were dried up so I walked the dry areas marking off boulders, subtle contours in the riverbed, shadow lines, steeper banks etc. Only downside, I have left the app running and killed my phone lol, it does draw power kinda quickly.
  7. ……..didn’t know they hit unicorn status?!?! ps….don’t pm me until next week when it’ll be in the black market, search keywords “WTT For A Gallon Of Gas”.
  8. Good stuff.....seems like its not worth the hassle lol.
  9. Really guy….Bay Area was upper 70’s last weekend and a brisk low 70’s this week…..I almost had to put on a sweater My gems get bit…..gonna need a little attention to get em primed up. Second string is looking good though.
  10. Yeah but death and taxes…only people I know that don’t pay them are the homeless. I’d be interested in hearing the answer to this as well. To further build on the subject (or muddy the waters) are there opportunities for write-offs if the business is conducted from your home? I mean, I used my pc, cell phone, electricity, packaging materials etc in the sale process that earned the dough. How about losses on baits from scammers lol.
  11. Just a note on the aluminum vs graphite reel seats. I had a couple rods laid out over a heavy black rubber mat in the back of my truck in *106 heat. I did a temp reading and found that the graphite seats got hotter. I have pics of the readings somewhere, I’ll see if I can find em. In the cold, aluminum is pretty bad, Not just that it gets cold but it will suck the heat right out of your hands. If it’s gonna be your primary rod, I’d consider going graphite or getting a good pair of gloves.
  12. Maybe because it’s an overdramatized topic that gets posted every couple months by teenaged kids with short pockets and unsatisfied desires. Not every post requires a dissertation on economics, or a discourse on the moral dillemas of the bait flipping market. Don’t let the simplicity of of the responses distract you from the message, they’re valid replies and have been generously applied to many a angsty swimbaiter before you.
  13. Im pretty respectful when I fish docks, I don’t throw near expensive boats and if someone asks me to be careful I’ll usually respect their request and move on. Last thing I want to do is damage someone’s personal property. When people are of the opinion that they own everything and start spouting BS about the law, I have no problem engaging in that debate or ruining their day after they attempt to ruin mine. If these guys have a contract from the army corps of engineers, granting them special privilege to operate a business on public water….trying to prevent public use is a REALLY bad look. It’s blatantly obvious that dockboss ken wasn’t performing any work with that pontoon. I think a case can even be made that he had no intention of doing work and driving his boat so close was an act of aggression toward the fisherman.
  14. Gotta be strategic on matters of toys, finance and matrimonial bliss. If the trolling motor is operational but on its last legs then definitely go with the fish finder. Then when the trolling motor does go out, replacement is more a matter of urgency and wife approval factor comes at a lower cost. Then you got a new fish finder and trolling motor. If you get a new trolling motor and the old fish finder is still working….you’re gettin a new handbag, shoes, Hawaiian vacation before it’s fish finder time
  15. Toxic WakenCrank, Mattlures Hardgill, WCZ Citizen…..and if I’m shorepounding, BDB G2 Shellcracker.
  16. Love me some hype baits. Every time a new one blows up it redirects all the attention toward the new “fire” and everything else becomes attainable again and, in a lot of instances, rationally priced lol. If you want something to fish, you can usually wait out the hype. And for what it’s worth, flipping is going on in a lot of cottage or niche markets with limited product inventory. With social media creating marketplaces and driving demand it’s damn near impossible to escape lol.
  17. I like how the criteria lists angling skills third on the list of requirements and you don’t even have to be good at it, just decent lol.
  18. definitely some heat…..anyone do a temp hack for fever?
  19. Keep in mind most mono’s break above their line rating. 20lb p-line stretches like a rubber band and goes way over. Stuff is near impossible to break off when you get hung up on bottom. If you’re on the bank, 20lb will take a beating; you’ll be better off with it shaking baits out of trees, tules etc. I’d use that on the heavier and more expensive baits. I’d have no problem throwing the wakes on 20. You can drop a little lower on the smaller baits.
  20. I would have filleted the bait outta its throat and mr pike would have been dinner. Nobody makes me bleed my own blood……nobody!
  21. I bounced back and forth on adding an accent color…..so I just went for it lol We’ve been getting peppered off and on by rain systems and low temps (below 50* in Ca is burrrrrrr). In order to get the heat I need for the paint to cure I have to run a forced air heater for about 4-6 hours for each coat. Sounds like a jet engine on the side of my house…….my neighbors started hating me long ago but I think they really hate me now
  22. Indeed! In current economic times it’s break out several more thousand and we’ll put you on a waitlist to get your stuff lol. For the OP, some tips: No matter what boat you get, the money is in the engine. Have a mechanic hook it up to run diagnostics on it. Low hours are good if it was used regularly, if it’s an older engine with low hours and very little use it has high potential to be a basket case. Look out for damaged skegs, bent props, milky oil, misfires during operation, general corrosion anywhere under the cowling. I’ll also give a look over the parts (injectors, vst, fuel pumps, etc), if it all looks factory, bolts still in original positions etc then it hasn’t had any major issues or been serviced. If there’s anything new, non-oem or youcan tell bolts/screws have been wrenched on, definitely ask about it. Check fuel hoses, should be soft and pliable, anything old and cracked will need to be replaced. Check gas tank for old or waterlogged fuel. Check steering, hydraulic is best, look for leaks in the cylinder and helm. If it’s cable steering it should move back and forth smoothly and not bind or be stiff. Also check age of batteries, trolling motor and turn on all systems including running lights to make sure they work. I’ll also look at the wiring and assume anything old, cracked, corroded or just poorly installed I’m gonna have to redo. On the hull….Id look for corrosion, pitting or oxidation in areas that generally don’t dry quickly or areas where dissimilar metals are in contact. Carpeted trailer bunk boards can hold water that corrodes, water puddles in the bilge, any corners that puddle water are all suspect. If the owner has rigged anything themself and used stainless screws or bolts (transducers, trolling motors) check those areas where the metal is in contact with hull. If the boat is painted look for pitting, water can sometimes penetrate the paint and corrode from behind it. Glass boats have their own issues, soft spots, rotted transoms, gel coat cracks, rotted stringers etc. I will say, they ride better, are quieter and I can probably repair all those issue in my driveway if I wanted to. Aluminum hulls are lighter making them easier to tow with smaller vehicles, you can get away with smaller boat engines which is helpful down the line when it comes repower time. Overall you’ll probably get more boat for the dollar going AL hull. Trailer, in San Diego they may have used it in the bay exposing it to saltwater. It will probably be a box tube frame, check it for rust, including on the inside of the tubes. Also look for rust around the hardware. Galvanized is better but most fw boats I’ve seen are comin with painted trailers, they don’t hold up as long. Look at the axles to make sure they’re solid, look for any bends, scraping damage etc. Also make sure they’re square on the trailer, seen people hit stuff that knocks em out of alignment. Bearings and hubs, I always assume they’re junk and replace. Tires, check dates and replace if near expiration no matter how good a shape they’re in. Try not to to tow it very far after sale if they’re weathered or cracked. Trailer lights, if they actually work, that’s a huge score lol, I always have to replace them too. Electronics can be tricky. I personally wouldn’t factor them a whole lot into the overall price unless they’re pretty new or have some big tech in them or are all networked by a professional. The regular wear stuff I mentioned, batteries, wiring, tires, bearings, fuel lines, trailer lights, etc aren’t deal breakers, just know that it’s gonna add to the cost up front. Also check registration for back fees and be sure to get a pink slip for the trailer. Be aware that dmv will also ding you when you transfer titles…..as a general rule I always buy “project boats” and never pay more than a couple hundred bucks for them if you get my drift. I think San Diego also charges some type of annual luxury tax on them too…good ol taxifornia. Ahhhhh boats…….good times, lol.
  23. Fall gets here, I’m ready for paint but now I’m chasing the sun and heat. Had a lucky run of 70* weather in November so I tent this thing up and went to town. Prime, sand, repeat, three times. Seeing some light at the end of the tunnel. Paint, sand, paint. And here’s where she is today, well almost, that was after the first coat….but third coat went on and it looks the same….minus some nasty drip marks. In the next couple months I’ll be rolling on a floor coating and starting the re-rig. And possibly building some casting decks. The can of worms never ends. Thanks for following along the whaler saga. Hopefully there’s other boat geeks out there that dig this kinda stuff.
