  1. Summer time is the time the bass that eat Shad and blue gill have some of the biggest baitfish available to them.

I have gotten bit in my bull Shad, bull gill, Ultimate gill and hud 68 weed less in July fishing lakes. I fish then around ambush points mostly. Flooded cedars, suspended grass and deep structure wiTh the hud. Mostly slow and study man. Just grinding those thing along. A little faster over the top of the weed beds trying for a reaction bite. This is my first summer throwing Swimbaits so what do I know:

  2. Lost a big fish today on the Bull Shad. As you can see in the photo it appears to have bent out one of my trebles. Throwing this bait on 25# silverthreas excalibur 10x, Okuma heavy guide select rod. Drag was set right but was slipping a little fighting fish.

I thought this Rod would have a soft enough tip for the trebles. I was throwing these on a heavy fiberglass crankbait rod raised to 2 ounces but the Rod was physically too heavy to fish all day comfortably (Fiberglass composite).

My question, upgrade hooks? Use different Rod?

I'm thinking of going to a 1/0 hook any suggestions.

    Thanks

  3. Here's what I've done recently (After watching a giant chase a 10" bass (I had hooked on a ned rig) up to the boat and finally eating it) I go to a small lake with little pressure and lots of decent sized bass (3-5lbs) and use this as type of a proving ground ( proving to myself bass will eat the big baits). Now I have confidence in the big baits and I am also kind of addicted to the big bait bite. So now I'm ready to go hit some other water, with real world experience and confidence to throw the big plastic all day for 1 or zero bites.
