I've got a fishing buddy that doesn't do much swim baiting going to San Diego, and I was wondering if any of you natives out there could give me some places I could tell him to go by and try and get some swim bait stuff for him to take back to me in the south.

I currently only have 1 swim bait rod which is a dobyns fury 795 and the heaviest bait i have is about 2.5 ounces i know the rod is rated to 5 ounce baits but throwing that thing seems to be a lot for the rod, I'm wondering if anyone has any experience throwing a bull shooter 160, which comes in at 3.75 ounces, on a 795 and can tell me how it handles. Thanks SU

I have been thinking about building my own wake rat recently and I'm just wondering if any of you have had any experience on the subject. I'm mainly wondering what a good type of wood to use is but any other tips or first hand knowledge would help a lot.

So as the title suggests I'm diving into the world of swim baits, I have some cheaper ones like the s waver and gantarel and such but I'm looking to get a MS slammer I haven't decided on 7 or 9 yet or what color. I live in Alabama with no trout stocked lakes near me. just need some input on the most versatile colors and sizes that I can fish night and day. Thanks
