    However, fishing is a part of me unlike anything else really. Even before I really went down the bass rabbit hole I fished saltwater so often and effectively that I went straight artificial and pretty quickly started to release most of the fish I caught because I was catching good eating quality fish often enough that it was more than I cared to consume. So along those lines, I believe the most ethical thing for me is to catch, care and release the majority of my catch (exclusively in freshwater) and I will catch them any way that will put the most giant fish in the boat. Outside of plainly snagging, netting or trapping fish etc.

    IMO, most people that completely knock bed fishing are people that are too lazy to learn and get good at it so they go on with their mental gymnastics of why it's so bad and unethical. No different than FFS fishing. Catching and being efficient and effective at both is really difficult until you master each!!! But much more effective at targeting specific fish...

    On the saltwater argument also. Lots of saltwater fish species prime time to fish for them revolves around the breeding patterns. So guys will specifically target fish that are seasonally trying to reproduce. Again, is it ethical even to consume them if you can wipe out a population of fish in an area that they congregate to spawn in and become very easy to catch.
