StriperBrigade
A solid choice would be the new dobyns fury 795 swimbait rod. $119. Wait until Christmas and you can get it for about $90. With a Cardiff 300/301 with 20lb mono or 65lb braid. Under $200 for the combo. Good luck.
M4TT
I appreciate all the help guys. I feel like I've gained years of knowledge in minutes. Will definitely toss the punker out for the bday!
Tin Can
Thanks for all the help guys. I actually went and got 16# flouro but decided not to to toss the LP because I don't have a swimbait setup yet (medium heavy rod w/ my citica) and definitely don't wanna lose my punker. I went out today and threw a few swimbaits, one of which the 6" BBZ-1 trout and it barely managed to get it out 20-30ft.. Birthday is next Monday and Christmas around the corner so I'm hoping for a Calcutta 301d + a Phenix M1 swimbait rod will be within reach. Flouro is a bad choice for top water baits, it sinks and pulls the nose of the bait down. You want mono or braid.
Top Ramen
With a Cardiff 300/301 with 20lb mono or 65lb braid. Under $200 for the combo. Good luck. I really prefer a 7:1 low profile 200 sized reel for stick baits. Easier to work the rod when I'm griping a smaller reel and it takes up slack quickly. I'm using a Tatula right now and love it. Jimmy Getty
I fish the punker on the Phenix Swimbait rod 7ft 9in and a Shimano Curado 200 in the 6 to 1 gear ratio with 65 or 80lb braid.
