JTL750
I'd call Phenix if I were you. The 869H is a #30 rod more geared toward live bait or surface iron. It is not designed to throw those big, heavy swimbaits. Phenix's 800H is their swimbait stick. It is also a #30 rod and is rated 2-8 oz. So if you're not throwing over 8oz on their swimbait specific rod, then I doubt you will on the 869 either. Just a thought And I actually have a buddy who built a swimbait stick out of an 869H, but he had the tip cut down a few inches and doesn't throw anything bigger than 6.5 oz on it. It all comes down to what feels comfortable to you. Edited December 19, 2015 by JTL750
mjaygrunt
I have the 869 h (cut down) and it throws my 250's, Hinkle shads, Hudds,TT's Perfectly. The rod allows me to throw the big baits all day without felling like a completed a shoulder work out. I dont throw anything over 7 oz. I use the 909 (cut) for my 10 oz plus baits.
