vrandall
I’m new here to this site, been on bbc boards for a few years under the same name. I have searched quite a bit online and on here about the capabilities of Phenix ultra swimbait classic 8’ Heavy rod. I haven’t found specific info as to what this rod will do. Just wondering if anyone can tell me how well this rod would handle deps 250. It’s rated to 8 oz, but the little info I have found, some guys say it would throw that easily( forgot where I read that though). I already have a megabass orochi leviathan and Daiwa DX X-heavy but they both feel over stressed with a 7 oz bait. I appreciate any info and help. Bassmann86
The Phenix ultra Swimbait could toss a Deps but not very well. There are much better options out there. If I were you I would be looking at the dobyns 867 MAG HSB. It’s got the backbone of the 807 but the more parabolic bend kind of like the 806 but it doesn’t flex as deep as the 806. vrandall
Ok thanks for the help. Yea I was looking at the 867 as well.
Morph808
I have one as well as an 867. Bassman 86 is right, the more parabolic 867 is better suited for the Deps 250 and other magnum glides. The Phenix is better for jig-hooked baits as it has a stiffer tip. vrandall
Well I ended up picking up the dobyns 867, got it in the mail today. Really like how it feels so far after just a few casts in the pond out back. Appreciate steering me in the right direction fellas Morph808
