Beginner Swimbait setup and baits

I have caught my PB on a swimbait (8.6lb), and have been hooked since then.  I didn't have the proper gear to throw a swimbait, but now I am looking for a setup. I am thinking of getting a Daiwa dx Extra heavy or heavy with a Shimano Cardiff. Does anyone know what the actual limits of these rod ratings are? I have heard some people say that they are underpowered, and others overpowered? what are some essential baits that I should get? Thinking of a glide bait, a soft bait, some type of waking bait. I primarily fish ponds with bluegill, but sometimes hit places with shad. I have caught my PB on a swimbait (8.6lb), and have been hooked since then.  Another question, Is it within reason to catch a double-digit bass in sc or not?

Ok sweet what was the lightest bait you could throw. heaviest? Also, have you heard anything about the Livingston viper 8 inch? It seems to be pretty cheesy, with the sound and all, but considering i can get one for 16 bucks it kinda sounds like a steal.

Hah, i swear you must know me somehow. That was my first real swimbait. And my first setup. It works decent, and starting out its a decent choice. For the price its worth it. My "sound" already stopped, but i like the weight system.

I threw all the way from s waver 168 to 8" hudd, i wouldnt really pay attention to the oz ratings. The absolute farthest you could go might would be 1.5-6.5 but that is a little uncomfortable on both ends.
