SDBasser
Hey guys Just finished my first profile of my first bait and have no idea were to put the joints. The bait is 5in and a shad profile. I was thinking of a 3-4 piece bait.
danthefisherman
What kind of action are you looking to get out of it? Post a picture if you can!
SDBasser
Sorry, I don’t know how to post a pick. The action I’m looking for is like a bull Shad. Just a straight retrieve
VolunteerSwimbaits
Then just copy a bullshad haha. Nobodys first bait was perfect, but it where you learn most.
danthefisherman
5 inches is a little small for three joints in my opinion, but you can get away with it if your bait has a big enough profile to handle the extra weight of the hardware. I like starting slightly in in front of the middle of the bait and cutting the joints evenly spaced all the way to the tail. The closer you put a joint to the head the more the whole bait will undulate with a snake-like swim. Putting the first joint near the middle tends to give it more of a hunting, side to side swim...but this also depends on where you place your ballast.
