Let me introduce myself.. Original trout fisherman from Idaho a lot of lake fishing with gigantic flies catching monster trout. Moved to SoCa, and mainly stuck with Ocean fishin Idealy throwing Tady 45's for monster yellows at the Nados, recently l picked up bass fishin about two years ago, and now I have the itch to catch monster fish on monster baits! Anyone help out with a couple of good starter baits, and a couple of good starter techniques! Mucho Appreciato and hopefully I can post some Pics soon and become a supporter not a vulture!

If you are living in San Diego, you can catch some big Bass in the San Diego Bay. The Spotted Bay bass are less likely to eat the larger baits you throw at them b/c the biggest ones are 3-4 lbs. However, calico bass fishing off of the Pt Loma Kelp (in areas not regulated by the MLPA -- don't want to get a citation) is very good for throwing big baits. Calico bass will eat baits up to 8". Winter time calico fishing, fish them very deep as they will be chilling by the bottom. They do not really come up until the summer months.

As far as fishing the San Diego Bay, the sandbass also eat big baits. Try to fish the Zuniga jetty area and drift along the opening of the channel. You can catch Sandbass up to 8+ lbs and they too eat big baits.

I am from SD, so if you have any questions about Saltwater Bass fishing, shoot me a PM and I'd be more than happy to answer any questions for you. I like freshwater bassin, but I'm a Saltwater bass fisherman.
