If your throwing the punker on braid you need a weaker rod with a lot of bend. On mono you can get away with a stiffer rod. A dobyns 795 will not fish a bbz and hudd effectively. Honestly your looking at two rods for that variety of baits.

If you don't get bit with it then what? You were getting bit before right? Then why change what was getting bit? Maybe try the XH or XXH Rod and then the line would not be such a big deal anymore The combo going out of the rod was working, it was not working on your end. When you only get hudd bites in the single digits all year, every bite really has to count. Already using a LDC XXH and ask anyone, my hooksets are vicious. Every bite Ive had in the last year has come unbuttoned so easily using the normal jig hook, treble hooks, anything. So I dont really know what else to try rather than something with less stretch. I have factored out all other options in the equation and I dont plan on losing another big fish because of a bad line. Id say a xxh is overkill

It has a white belly thats really all they see besides the flash. Just make sure you are comfortable with the color so on the water there is no second-guessing if it works. Personally I think mono on a punker is terrible I never put a fish in the boat that way, its the only bait I will throw on braid

I use braid and a lighter sb rod, because without it you are going to miss bites. The lighter rod helps absorb some of the aggressive strikes without pulling the hooks out. Get a 9" wood punker in trout and you will be good to go

I am in the same situation. My opinion, Owner st 41s are garbage. I miss and lose more fish on those than you would think possible. Even when they get in the boat, the hole in there mouth is so wide that the bait falls out. Dont use them... I am trying out the Gammy straight shanks now, havnt had enough bites to say whether or not I like them, but I wont be going back to 41s ever
