  1. Learn how fast they sink, and how fast you have to reel to keep the bait at a certain depth. Add weight to a ROF 5 or remove weight from a ROF 12. Get your bait and retrieve dialed in to fish just off the bottom or just over grass. If you're picking up piles of crap around the nose/line tie that's one thing. If you're getting leaves stuck on the jig hook, that's another. Are you talking about grass like, soft snotty decomposing crap, or healthy strands of milfoil, etc.? You can try popping the bait to clean off the jig hook occasionally, but what works best for me is learning how to fish around it.

It was interesting, but I got the bait out without any damage to her, and she swam away fine.

  5. If you stand up it's not a problem. no different than in a boat. Yes, longer rod makes a longer reach with the net. You'll have to get used to how much line to leave out, and how much to choke up on the rod, how far you can reach with the net, etc. Is there a reason not to? Not in my opinion. Unless you sit in your seat all day. Then the rod handle will start banging against the seat back or aluminum frame in your Hobie.
  6. The search is not all that complicated. It ignores words that are too commonly found on the site. So you just have to take two seconds to think about what to search for. If you type in "best line" "hudd line" "best hudd line" you won't get anything. If you try, "hudds fluoro" "hudds braid" "hudds mono" you get results for each. Better yet, if you set your search up like this... You get... And if you just go down the list of topics, right click any of them that sound as if they might be helpful to read, and Open in New Tab, in your browser. Then you have a handful of tabs open, that you can read through or skim, and close each one when you're done with it. Or you can even... Use "Subscribe Topic" or "Bookmark Topic" so that you'll either get email notifications when the thread has a reply, or keep a list of topics you think are useful, on this site. So yes, it requires about 15 seconds of thought to search and get useful results. Maybe that's too much, considering clicking a couple buttons on the search page and choosing search terms that are not ignored words requires slightly more effort than typing out the entire word "you" or "you'll." It's not differential equations and derivatives and ish though.
  7. Western Digital makes some solid ones. You can get a 2 TB for about a $100 or less if you look around Thanks, they have them on amazon for under $100. Is 2 TB plenty of storage? Or would it be worth it to spend an extra $45 for a 4 TB? You using a laptop or a desktop? You have any desire to take the drive with you places? I ask because, you can get 2TB 2.5" drives that don't need a power cable. Just the USB to the computer gives them enough power to run. The bigger drives, like the 3-4TB are 3.5" drives and need to be plugged into the computer as well as an outlet. Western Digital I believe calls the 2.5" portable drives "My Passport" and the 3.5" "My Book." Right now, the sweet spot price wise is at the 4TB drives, $125. It just depends on what files you're saving, and how big they are. 4TB should last you a really long time especially if you aren't saving everything, and just saving the clips of good useable footage from each trip.
  8. Don't think the 3 smaller baits have ever been fished. The 3 large RS have been it looks like, but the spot where the hook goes in has been glued.
  9. Have a surplus of Rising Sons I don't need. 1 small bottom hook Hitch 1 small top hook Hitch 1 large top hook Blue Shad 1 large top hook Bluegill 1 large bottom hook Bluegill 1 line through Bluegill $60 PayPal shipped.
  10. Yea I kind of thought we already had that...
  11. The 806 is a softer rod. Hanging 24oz off of both of them isn't going to tell you how much softer really. Hang 4oz, 8oz, 12oz, 16oz, etc. Or just go fish them both. It's pretty obvious on the water. If you generate enough force casting, or hang enough weight, they're both going to load to the grip. You can look at charts and graphs and stats all day, and all that does is give you a ballpark of what that rod might be when you buy it. You won't learn anything more until you go fish it. But they're pretty different rods.
  12. 12' you're better off using an extendable painters type pole from Home Depot or something. The longer the pole and the more joints, you're going to have more wobble in it and the footage is damn near unuseable without a lot of crop and stabilizing. Mostly applies if you're sticking the camera up high in the air. Think about it, whatever little bit the boat moves beneath your feet is greatly exaggerated 12' in the air. It is a cool idea and makes for some pretty bad ass footage, but from what I've learned you're better off with sturdy painters pole with zero slop in the joint, or look for mic/PA/lighting stands that are tripods with a long reach. And use either the handle bar or roll bar mount depending on the diameter of the pole. There are a lot of GoPro specific forums where you can find all kinds of ideas
  13. Cuz its cool......duhh! makes sense for some baits like the 250, mother, etc where the tails can bend and are a pain in the ass to straighten Sure I understand that, and do that myself with baits like that when I put them in the boat, but I can't and don't take everything I own with me. But look at the pictures posted here...

    My first DD

Not really very accurate, unless there are a lot of fish smoking a pack a day for over a decade?
  15. Because if I'm going to be spending $100 on a custom hand crafted and painted bait, I'm going to be taking care of it. I'd rather not put it through unnecessary abuse when I can take 15 mintues and create a functionable storage box. What unnecessary abuse are you saving hard baits from, by hanging them instead?
