  1. I went to college there and fished the lake hard for three years. Mead is one of the tougher lakes to fish with gin clear water, scattered fish populations and well educated fish. For me in the winter is was always about 3/4 or 1 oz football head jigs fished on the walls and cliff faces. I'd focus on the Calville Bay area.

If I was going to go up there and wanted to throw swimmers I would toss some Hudds around the Henderson area. They used to plant trout down in that area in the winter.

  2. I anchor a lot, not for bass but for sturgeon fishing. I have 300 ft of anchor rope to control and deal with. What works really well is an old sleeping bag stuff sack, a mess laundry bag, or if you want to get really fancy a anchor rope bag by Chinook. The loose rope is just stuffed in the bag then paid out of the bag when you need too.

Something else that works really well is a plastic milk crate, you just coil the rope in the crate.

  3. Don it might not be a bad idea to take a half hour and do a consult with an attorney. I know with cars there is a lemon law, not sure if there is one with boats or not. A little time and money with an attorney might well be worth it.

  4. Ceaser is right on, the remotes are slowwwwwww so you spend a lot of time correcting due to the lag time. I'm not a big fan of hand controls even with a foot switch because any time my hand is on the motor its not on the rod ready for a hook set. Get a cable control/ foot control if there is any way to swing it.

  5. Yeah you are way under powered for that size boat. Even if you went through and completely reworked the motor to make it a 15 (which takes more than just the carb) you would still be under powered. If the motor is in good shape, sell it to someone looking for a kicker motor on a larger boat and use the money toward a 25 or 35 hp for yourself.

  6. Fish should be starting to bunch up on shad in the coves. But targeting that from shore will be difficult. If you can hit it at first or last light I would toss big topwater off every point I could walk to. Tons of little spots in that lake but there are some nice largemouth and nice spots. Good luck.
