  1. I actually liked fishing it when I lived there. Its very challenging and will make you a much better fisherman. It also fishes very different than any place else I have ever fished.
  2. Careful with that approach, not sure if its still that way but it used to be illegal to fish inside the breakwaters of the marinas on Mead.
  3. I went to college there and fished the lake hard for three years. Mead is one of the tougher lakes to fish with gin clear water, scattered fish populations and well educated fish. For me in the winter is was always about 3/4 or 1 oz football head jigs fished on the walls and cliff faces. I'd focus on the Calville Bay area. If I was going to go up there and wanted to throw swimmers I would toss some Hudds around the Henderson area. They used to plant trout down in that area in the winter.
  4. I anchor a lot, not for bass but for sturgeon fishing. I have 300 ft of anchor rope to control and deal with. What works really well is an old sleeping bag stuff sack, a mess laundry bag, or if you want to get really fancy a anchor rope bag by Chinook. The loose rope is just stuffed in the bag then paid out of the bag when you need too. Something else that works really well is a plastic milk crate, you just coil the rope in the crate.
  5. Don, glad its working out. Give me a call when you have an open weekend day... sharks are chewing!
  6. I've got one and like it a lot. One of the things I noticed with that rod is it really loads up and throws well with a slow lob. If you really try to wing it, it will backlash the reel.
  7. Don it might not be a bad idea to take a half hour and do a consult with an attorney. I know with cars there is a lemon law, not sure if there is one with boats or not. A little time and money with an attorney might well be worth it.
  8. Damn Don sorry to hear all this. Give me a call and we'll go shark fishing on the bay, not swimbaiting but still a lot of fun.
  9. Try it after using some real shaving soap put on with a brush. The brush really raises the wiskers and makes for a cleaner shave.
  10. I have an 11" Nates that I throw on an Okuma XH. It works but does feel like it overloads the Okuma a bit.
  11. Ceaser is right on, the remotes are slowwwwwww so you spend a lot of time correcting due to the lag time. I'm not a big fan of hand controls even with a foot switch because any time my hand is on the motor its not on the rod ready for a hook set. Get a cable control/ foot control if there is any way to swing it.
  12. I did the least amount of bass fishing this year that I have ever done. A little bit in mid winter but not a single swimbait fish for me. However spent a great deal of time learning sturgeon and shark fishing as well as some trips into the big blue for tuna and salmon. Was a great year for branching out into new things and catching critters that pull really hard.
  13. Yeah you are way under powered for that size boat. Even if you went through and completely reworked the motor to make it a 15 (which takes more than just the carb) you would still be under powered. If the motor is in good shape, sell it to someone looking for a kicker motor on a larger boat and use the money toward a 25 or 35 hp for yourself.
  14. Fish should be starting to bunch up on shad in the coves. But targeting that from shore will be difficult. If you can hit it at first or last light I would toss big topwater off every point I could walk to. Tons of little spots in that lake but there are some nice largemouth and nice spots. Good luck.
  15. If you can't tell the difference between a used condom and other things, you are in for a long troubled life.
  16. Can't really tell, may be some type of concretion but not sure.
  17. I've recently got into shark fishing and have been doing a lot of web research. You should see the size of the sharks guys catch off the Gulf Coast and SE coast while surf fishing
  18. I'm a geologist I'll look at the pics at home. My work computer filters pic websites so I can't see your pics from here.
  19. Great storys guys. Bummer about the tough fishing. Dude, swiming in Clear Lake, you're gonna die!
  20. Geeze Nick, I've been off the board since all this started but what a turn of events, lots of ups and downs. Sorry to hear.
  21. Hey Nick sorry to hear that man. I live in Modesto too so might be able to help you out with some tackle, particularry plastics and jigs. Send me a PM. Mike
  22. Hunt deer here in Calif and elk in Colorado every year. Also hunt doves and ducks when I have places to go. Havn't hunted phesants since high school as there isn't much of a wild population in this part of Calif anymore.
