2 SAL's were pulled from LA today!!!!! I'm heading there in the morning. The winning stringer tonight during the TTZ tourny was 37lbs and some change! That's a Falcon lake stringer!!!

Looking for some input as far as a reel to put on this new rod. I've done some looking around and the 4 reels I've had my eye on are these. Any others out there I'm not thinking about? What are your thoughts? Curado 301E: -6.2:1 ratio -20/120 line -10.5 ounces -$249 retail Calcutta TE401: -5.0:1 ratio -20/160 line -12.8 ounces -$369 retail Calcutta 401B: -5.0:1 ratio -20/160 line -11.7 ounces ounces -$229 retail Daiwa Pluton: -6.2:1 ratio -17/120 line -12.7 ounces -$449 retail I can tell you being a Shimano man....the odds are stacked up against the Daiwa. It's more expensive, holds less line, is one of the heaviest and has a higher gear ratio. The only thing I see in it's favor is that I don't like the gold on the Calcuttas....LOL Thoughts?

I have never owned or thrown the wooden one, but I do own the injected one. I agree with the others that they are 2 different baits that both have great qualities for certain conditions. At times I feel like the injected one is "too loud" but it does draw up some fish from deep water. Haven't caught a toad on mine yet......but have had several swats.

I had him add it because when I really wanna swing the bejezzus outta the rod I have a hand there and a hand towards the bottom of the rod. That was my thought ahead of time.....and now since I've held it, it won't be on future rods as it's not needed and just extra $$$ and weight. Thanks for all the comments guys.

Back on Topic!~! Fishing grass with swimbaits! I picked up a few more swimbaits this week....a few hard baits and a few softbaits including these 2. They are the top hook version and should make good for fishing some deeper grass. As soon as the rain blows by this week I'm going to get out and throw them.

Yea......I was just commenting that there is some good info in this thread.....and I'm grateful to be able to read it. Never said I was a swimbait god....and I don't have DD swimbait fish pics. My PB actually came off a senko......go figure. He and I have had a lover spat elsewhere and I guess his butt still hurts...... Anyways.....back to the regularly tuned program talking about swimbaits in the grass. I'm actually fishing a tourny tonight on Lake Austin in that exact grass and hope I get the chance to break out my swimbait rod in search of a kicker fish.
