  1.  I had the same problem when I first started throwing baits over five ounces with a Palomar knot, especially on fluoro. Once I really started paying attention to how I was tying my knot I realized that I had been twisting the loop causing it to cut into itself. There’s are videos that will explain better, but your best bet is practice makes perfect.

I now have confidence again in the palomar, but choose to use the  improved clinch and SDjam knots because of how strait they attach to the bait instead of at an angle like palomar.

I would try some Izorline personally, worry about fluoro when losing a bait doesn’t cost you a months check.

  2. Yes, it’s a pain because the weight is pretty hard like some wheel weights. You have to be careful like I said about heating it up too much or your Dremel bit jumping out of the hole and cracking the plastic body. Then I fill the rear cavity with pure lead ponded into shape or tungsten putty which I find to be easier. Every bats different so I don’t have specific weights to give. Just got to do some trial and air to get it where you like it. I also switch the silver owner trebles with 2/0 st36 on the front and a 1/0 on the back

  3. I have converted four of the new SK’s. It’s a head trip the first time cutting into a hundred dollar bait! Know that this bait isn’t as user friendly as the OG was and only proceed if your willing to gamble screwing up and eating the loss. Too many have tried passing their mistakes on to unknowing others thinking they were getting a “dealâ€.

All of the baits I have done were the rise ups and had a small weight in the rear, so the back skin had to come off which is glued on. Or you can cut a small slit by the anal vent. A butter knife works pretty well for me to get the skin off but I still usually scratch the foil some. The bass don’t care, and neither do I. I don’t sell guns or swimbaits.

For removing the weights I used a Dremel with a carbide tip. The weight material is some alloy that’s pretty hard, so you have to take care not overheating the plastic shell. I had one take on water after a few months of use that I attribute to this. I was able to repair it with 2ton epoxy after I got it dried out by using an air compressor to blow the moisture out.

For the lips, one popped out just prying with pliers, but the other three wouldn’t budge and needed cut off and filed out to where you want it. I tape off the chin to avoid scratching the paint.

For adding weight I use tungsten putty for the rear hole and a little in the front hole spread along the bottom. This usually gets it pretty close to a low float bait. Next I hammer flat some lead split shots or .22 cal pellets. Now I put the bait back together and go out to my pool or a clear body of water. The weights are thin and can be slid under the chin until you get a horizontal ROF that you like.

If you have any questions I’m happy to help anyway I can man

  4. Had an 807 for two years till it deep sixed off my yak with an Abu Naci and my one and only OG 250 I’ll probably ever have. Honestly, I only miss the reel and 250. The rod got the job done, but never fit well for how I fish. Always wanted a couple more inches on the handle and a little more tip for glides. The 867 has what I wanted all along.

Saying all that I like my Phoenix M1 and Black Diamonds better.

  5. Lake pleasant is your only option for striper unless you drive a few hours to the Colorado. Go to The Hook Up tackle shop and talk to Ben Koller. It's an awesome store and Ben's an even better dude.

Shore fishing kinda sucks due to lakes in the desert ...well...being in the desert...lol. The salt river chain are all in Desert Bighorn Sheep country if that tells you anything, think very steep. Watch for snakes at night.

Have caught a lot of fish from float tubes before getting a boat but lake lice and the heat pretty much restrict you to night time and first light. I miss the Az wilderness every damn day, the valley not so much. Good luck man!

  6. Had a Pickeral steal my 262 tail when I tried to jerk the bait away from a follower. I can find the smaller tails, just not the larger sized anywhere. Even tried some other tails but that design seems to be pretty critical to get a decent glide, Which isn't that great to begin with in my opinion.

  7. No I haven't fished their tourneys. My main goal for the last three years has been hunting for big bass and never throwing a senko again, unless it's helping a kid learn to fish. I have thought about now and then, but by the time they start I'm all ready a month or more into trophy mode.

  8. Good deal man. Was just curious if you were down here in lower slower too or up above the canal. I rotate ponds to keep the fish from seeing big baits much. I'm down by Milford but also fish all over Delmarva from my kayak.

  9. Being able to catch on jigs & T-rigs sounds like craws are the main nighttime snack. Which was the night bite I grew up knowing in Az. Fish stuffed there faces with crawdads from the shoreline out into 30+ feet rock piles.

Now living on another planet called Delaware, I've barely seen any craws. What there are here are a ton of frogs, eels, and furry critters all along the shoreline. The bass will positioning in little cuts with their mouths facing the shore and their backs barely in the water. Some nights their spooky and you have to literally cast on shore and bring your bait to the edge . Most nights a slammer or rat landing on their head gets the desired results

  10. I blame Zebco for my dislexic casting and reeling with the right hand. My kids were started on spinning reels, and they only feel comfortable reeling with their left, both casting and spinning. Really need to switch to help alleviate fishing elbow, it just feels weird and I know that's when a DD will hit and I'll be all discombobulated.

  11. Man, I wish I could be of much help on where cause I went through this last year in Orlando. Water is everywhere, as well as no trespassing/ no fishing signs, and every old lady will yell at you that there's no fishing,...as there husband stares at the ground and or off in the distance. Weedless Rising Sons and Pizz Shadley glides killed it for me. Places with the most small gators seemed to have the best average size, and them little ba$t@*£s are quick when trying to cast parallel to the shore! Next time I go I will definitely/maybe/probably bring my yak, some of them lizards are BIG!

    Good luck Bud

  12. Hey Ben, what lakes are you usually fishing out there? Have had some good early season top water at Alamo and Roosevelt. On the salt river chain I know of some giants that were caught on top that were smashing trout. Definitely a quality over quantity bite and casting angles are so important on the canyon type lakes. Paralleling the bank trying to bring it past every nook and cranny which they use to funnel and pen food into. I think at canyon and saguaro their waiting for a ringtail to get a drink...lol

  13. Think I'm going to send this Phenix black diamond back to tw, and exchange for the Muse Black think I'll grab a 8'6"XL and see how it handles 250's and pizz shadleyXL. I ACTUALLY ended up really liking the diamond inshore for wakers and glides Like the Pizz shadley. I will get it and let you all know my opinion on them. Sorry not being able to help but will soon

Sorry not helping here, buts it's nice to talk about a rod or any equipment that is readily available and not have to hear, CUSTOM SO AND SO it's worth it to wait a year. A lot of company's are getting into SB specific rods . It would be nice to have a space to talk about commercial made without getting the custom, custom, name drop crap on every post.later
