Whether its a bass pond, surf, or trout stream: before the waders go on, the phone & wallet get put into ziplock sandwich bags. It keeps that stuff dry even if the rest of me is wet.
and the good thing is you can still use the phone through the ziplock

Who says bass won't eat trout baits in non-trout waters......WTG! The teener is just a cast away.
-
I use my 806 for 8" hudds and the 795 for smaller baits like the 68 hudds.

Never thought about throwing an iron for LM....but hey, Calicos eat irons all the time so why not. WTG!

WTG! You learned a valuable lesson there.....never give up on a cast until the bait is literally at your feet.

When you bottom bounce Hudds they get that way. I think its just a lot of micro scratches from scraping along the bottom that silt / dirt get into and disclore it . I just leave mine alone....gives the bait character. What you can do on new baits is paint some 316 baits or mend it glue on it. I do this to the nose of the bait to protect it you could do the same to the bottom.

Thanks guys looks like i will be going with the Fat cat for sure! I also have a boat but i frequently fly out to see friends in California and fish. Renting a boat at perris or castaic is 80 a day and thats only from sun up to 4. It would be nice to have something with me that lets me kinda do my own thing. Also the small ponds out here will get a hurting
You can float tube Perris but at Castaic you can only float on the lower lagoon not the upper lake.

Super Fat Cat all the way,, easiest to get in or out, sits up nice and high for great casting,, but it's not exactly built for compact packability
Also a Creek Company ODC 420 which is what I use, in fact I own 3 of them for my kids or friends. Very similar to the Fat Cats. Here's mine rigged up........

I thumb the spool slightly right before it hits the water causing the bait (hudd) to land with a slap instead of a cannon ball. You don't lose any distance on the cast since it's at the end of it and it sounds (at least to me) like a fish breaching the surface and slapping down on it's side. Also what was already said.....cast past your target.

Dude, that is bada$$. I tell you...if I could target lake trout here in So Cal I would never go back to Largies.

I had the experience of hooking one from the beach. Many years ago as a teen, on one of our yearly visits to my uncles house, I hooked into one while fishing live bait. I was using a Penn squider and I don't recall the rod, with 20# mono. Talk about a ride! Not sure how big it was, but it was big. My line was ripping off the reel as this thing kept going airborn further and further away from me towards deeper water. I was about to get spooled so I buttoned down the drag and hoped for the best......The fish won. 30+ years later I still talk about that day.....would love to experience that again. Good luck, would love to see some video as well.

Hit your swimbait.....pulled on the line......prevented a skunk, sounds like a good catch to me.....WTG!
